On 6/1 I was contacted by the facility stating there was damage to a number of units due to construction the facility was completing and that my unit was in the area of the damage that I was needed to come to the unit to inspect my belongings as the facility staff was not able to open units due to legal constraints. I inspected the unit that afternoon and reported damage to the office, taking photos &videos of the damaged items . The facility mgr then emailed me apologizing and provided the contact info for the insurance company that they contract with, that I purchased coverage with through the storage facility. The claim included reported occurrences and required itemized item list wi/ cost and time of purchase.the facility shared.a clean up and wet vac would be used to clear debris from overhead that fell and poured through to the unit.On 6/6 I emailed the insurance co sharing that I submitted a claim, reattaching the claim from my work email. Initial claim was submitted from my personal email & I noticed at resubmission a letter was missing from the insurance co email address on my initial submission. A claim rep was then assigned & emailed me requesting that I ask the storage facility if a police report was filed. I forwarded the email to the facility’s district manager requesting a report after phoning. The district mgt then cc’d me on an email to the insurance rep sharing no such report was filed, that no other tenants with claims were asked this, that damage was caused at no fault of the renter and to please honor the agreement between the facility and insurer. At a 7/22 visit additional items were damaged and the overhead of the unit was filled with debris &liquid seeped to more items. Facility staffI observed and stated the overhead would be cleaned & wet vac. Addt’l items were then disposed.9/22 claim was denied. I emailed the facility to inquire if the facility would then provide reimbursement for the damages items that weee disposed of in dumpsters.

      Hi,

We are aware of this incident and instructed them to contact their insurance company. We do not have control of the outcome of their decision. These types of incidents are beyond our control. This is why in section 5 of our lease we have the release of owner’s liability.

      Thank you
