I own a combined apartment in the Rittenhouse Savoy Condos, **** *********** ******, Philadelphia, Pa *****. Since December 2022 our family has been fighting to keep our apartment door locks to maintain the security and privacy of our minor daughter and our property. The Savoys Council has insisted that they have the right to mandate us changing our door locks to a master key lock which is controlled by the Council and lets them open over 200 doors with one key. This master lock compromises our familys security and privacy as numerous people have access to the key and the key could have been copied when employees/outside contractors left the building to run errands. We have had several email communications to defend our citizens right for security but are now being faced with fines of $1,000 per day as of August 12, 2023, we now have to give in to these demands and let the Council's contractor change our door locks to their master lock. We feel anxious because this master lock puts our 15 year old daughters privacy and security at risk. For 8 months we have had many email communication expressing that the Council does not have the right to change our locks but they insist that their Condominium Declaration gives them this authority. We have spent over $6,000 in legal fees to come to a resolution but they have refused to budge. Can you help me understand if I have the right to use our own lock to exclude undesirable visitors and prevent an invasion to privacy in our home? The Councils lawyer have claimed that certain sections of the Savoy's Declaration gives them the right to mandate changing our locks but when we read these sections it says the door and hardware belongs to the apartment owner.Attached are relevant documents and more details of this complaint. Do you think I have the right to defend our security and privacy, can I maintain our minor daughters security with our own locks, could I proceed with a complaint?
