Hi,I am writing to dispute a charge that I received from Ringpfeil Advanced Dermatology for a skin evaluation that I had on 11/11/2022. At the time of my appointment, the staff at the dermatology clinic did not inform me that this service would be charged to me.When I called the clinic to inquire about the charge, they told me that the billing depends on my insurance. However, I believe that it is the responsibility of the dermatology to inform patients of any potential charges for services, regardless of insurance coverage.I am requesting that the charge be removed from my account and that I not be held responsible for paying it. I would appreciate a response to this letter as soon as possible.Sincerely,*****************

This is in response to the complaint# ******** against our practice by ***** ***.  We attempted to contact the patient ourselves to resolve this matter and she has failed to respond to us. We saw ***** in our Philadelphia office on 11/11/2022. As you can see by the email below, we did email her to inform her that the policy she is enrolled with carries a deductible of $400 per school year. We also stated in that email that she would be responsible for any balance after the explanation of benefits was rendered by her insurance. She did not respond. She did provide her insurance card to be scanned in at check in, which also states that she has a deductible balance.  She was evaluated in our office, we submitted the claim to her insurance, and the insurance processed the claim according to her benefits. They allowed a certain amount which fell completely toward her deductible as it had not yet been met. We sent a statement to her for the balance via email as we do with all patients.
On December 9th, ***** called our office to inquire about her billed balance. I explained her deductible was not met and therefore the balance is a patient due balance not paid by her insurance. She claimed that no one told her she would have to pay anything for evaluation.  I noted the email sent on 11/11 regarding her deductible/referral, and explained that her providing insurance information indicated to us that she understood the evaluation would be billed and not a guaranteed free service. She hung up, says she will not pay and "doesn't think this is how this works".

We did not require or collect payment for her evaluation on the date of service because she provided her insurance information to us upon booking.  Had she not provided insurance information, or insurance that we do not accept, we would have required payment in full on the date of service. We reiterated to her that her policy holds a deductible that must be met prior to the insurance company covering balances in full. We billed the evaluation to her insurance company, and per her insurance, she is responsible for the deductible balance as this was an agreement she made with her insurance company upon enrolling in the plan.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Brittany
