      Date of transaction: March 28, 2025 Paid Metro: $1,936.96 Description of problem: Metro Heating was a company that installed my HVAC sysyem over 10 years ago and has maintained it since then. Upon hearing a disturbing noise from it, I called them to fix it. The problem was that I needed a new circulation pump. Their repairman (*****), after calling Metro's Office, gave me a cost to fix it of $1936.96. My ******** were shocked and ***** was unable to answer and was unable to answer some simple questions about the quote (e.g., What is the cost of the pump?). Being fearful about the safety of the system and trusting in Metro, we reluctantly agreed to proceed. Later (as detailed in the attached email of April 1 & April 10); we learned that the cost of the parts was approximately $213.95 versus the $997.96 that Metro charged, and that the labor cost charged of $840 was far beyond a more reasonable cost of $300 for 3 hours work. A person (*****) from Metro's Office called on April 3 to discuss. I told ***** my concerns and he said that he would see what he could do. I never heard from him or Metro again despite my emails of April 10 and April 28. Such price gouging and taking advantage of fear and anxiety (my wife and I are both in our 80s) is wrong and I hope that the Better Business Bureau can deal with it! I appreciate your attention to it!

      I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

      Unfortunately, the response by Metro is no response at all in that ****** did not
      address our complaint that:
      1. The cost to us of the work was price-gouging - - 3 times Metros cost for
      the parts and labor as well as the normal cost of such a repair;
      2. Our agreement for Metro to do the work was made under duress in that we
      were afraid about the safety of our system;
      3. Having been a customer for over 10 years, we believed that they were a
      company we could trust a trust that was betrayed.
      Certainly, such price gouging that exploits our trust in Metro and our fear is
      contrary to the basic principles of BETTER BUSINESS!
