I stayed at the Staybridge Suites Pittsburgh Airport (**********) from May 16th to June 4th, 2022, with my family while my young son was undergoing critical medical testing at one of the area specialised hospitals. We went to swim in the hotel pool towards the end of our trip. On June 1st 2022, the hotel manager, Mr. ***** *****, accused me of shampooing my children's hair in the pool based on a report from a staff member in Housekeeping. He claimed that an external regulatory authority had tested the swimming pool water and found certain chemical levels to be unsatisfactory, and that it was due to my family's use and alleged washing of hair in the pool. These accusations were entirely false. The shampoo amenities in the hotel suite were permanently mounted to the bathroom walls and could not have been carried to the pool. Additionally, my daughter's braided hairstyle would typically not be washed in a chlorinated pool or any pool for that matter. Security cameras were available. What makes these accusations even more disturbing is that throughout our stay, several white families used the pool regularly without issue. It was only after myself and my Black children used the pool that there was an issue and suddenly, certain chemical readings had changed. The trip to Pittsburgh had been challenging for him with painful medical tests, injections and procedures and full of hospital visits and overnight stays. I wanted to give my son something pleasant to remember. When I later encountered Mr. ***** in the hotel hallway, he verbally attacked and shouted at me.causing emotional distress on my twins' birthday. The experience was humiliating and ruined what should have been a joyful day for our family. We were so distressed that the cake we ordered for our twins was left untouched in the refrigerator at checkout. Despite escalating the issue to **********' ***************** they refuse to take responsibility, citing the franchise structure as a barrier.
