My daughter rented an apartment in Ambassador Apartments located at 4733 Center Ave, Pittsburgh. This apartment unit is served by Union Real Estate Company (which is acting as Agent for the apartment building), and is listed as Landlord on the rental agreement.

For last few weeks, my daughter has been facing problems every single day - like no hot-water, sometimes toilet flush is not working. There is not enough water pressure in the shower. To be honest the apartment at present is almost inhabitable due to extreme winter conditions, and no hot-water in the apartment.

Every single day my daughter is calling the # listed on her rental agreement, as well as listed in a notice in the apartment for any such emergencies. And the person who answers the call, has just one thing to say always - that she will pass on the message to the maintenance manager. And today she even laughed at my daughter's misery. The maintenance manager seems almost incompetent to take care of problems. As such its causing lot of inconvenience to my daughter.

I took a look at rental agreement that my daughter signed with landlord. Was shocked to find that agreement has left nothing for tenants in terms of even the basic rights that tenants should have. For example, the contract says landlord is responsible for water. But the landlord is not responsible for ensuring that there is adequate water pressure in the shower. Landlord is responsible for sewer. But there is no mention of who should ensure that the toilet flush is working.

If the tenant wants to give notice to the landlord for vacating the apartment before the lease term expires, then tenant will be responsible for continuing to pay the rent till landlord is able to rent again, or till the end of original lease (usually rental leases make tenant pay till the security-deposit money that they paid upfront, has been used).

The landlord, United Real Estate Company, is abusing their rights as landlord, and making tenant life miserable.
