*** sold my business faulty paint. Under their recommendation, we used a paint system that led to massive failures. My company has had to eat the cost of recalling and repainting products. This has nearly bankrupted my company. We have filed complaints and were told that things were being resolved. That was in October. Things are no closer to resolution. We keep getting told that there are talks going on, and that the Industrial Coatings Division was sold to Pittsburgh **************. Neither company will respond to me. The regional representative that was supposedly assigned to the issue, ****** *******, has been my point of contact, and has stopped responding after claiming that talks would be resolved in April. She claimed 2 weeks ago that they needed to collect samples from the faulty products at a local customer's location, but have not responded since, and the customer has stated that no contact from PPG or Pittsburgh Paints or ****** ******* was ever made. I fear that my business is being brushed off, and that they are waiting for me to go bankrupt so that this is no longer an issue for them. The claim amount against them is roughly $235,500.00, and for a small business like mine, it is a death sentence if this is not resolved immediately.

I purchased this companies deck cleaning solution and followed the instructions exactly as labeled on the container. The product damaged the wood on my deck requiring me to sand / resurface the entire deck at great expense and effort. I contacted the companies technical support. I was instructed that there was nothing I could do other than attempt to brush the deck surface with a stiff bristle only and when I attempted to do so it only damaged the deck wood surface further. Technical support offered no resolution when I requested a simple refund of the product, I was ignored, follow up correspondence was ignored. Upon review of customer testimonials it was clear that this product is defective and it’s applicability to being used on wood is suspect. This product should be withdrawn from the market until it can be further illustrated that is safe for use on wood.

This is the second response that I have had to reject as it was not a response just general correspondence.  I find it disingenuous to keep sending me messages in possible hope that I will forget to respond, and the issue will be closed automatically. I hope that this is not the case, but I find it suspect. For me to respond multiple times you’re taking up additional time that I will factor into my complaint. Please keep all responses purposeful and avoid simple little notes that have no value.

Thank you for the opportunity to review and discuss Mr. ********'s complaint with PPG's Technical Advice Center.

The Olympic® Premium Deck Cleaner Mr. ******** purchased and applied to his deck is made specifically to remove dirt and contamination from decks and exterior wood without the need for scrubbing. It is not intended to correct wood surfaces that are not in sound condition. Reviewing the photos that were submitted, the "damage" claimed by Mr. ******** is the result of wood grain fibers that are being released from the wood. Mr. ******** stated he had followed the label instructions; however, it does not appear he tested a small area of the deck with the product prior to application. The label recommends doing so and allowing it to dry before applying the cleaner to the entire deck. Performing such a test would have shown areas of loose wood fibers thus providing Mr. ******** with the opportunity to change strategies on the cleaning method. Mr. ******** was instructed to use a stiff nylon bristle brush and brush in the direction of the wood grain to remove these fibers.

PPG is proud of its products. Our goal is complete customer satisfaction and PPG makes every effort to meet that goal. It does warrant the Deck Cleaner one year following the purchase of the product if, after application to a properly prepared surface according to label directions, the customer is not satisfied. PPG will be happy to reimburse Mr. ******** for the cost of the product or to provide him with replacement product.

      ********** ************

I have been trying to get help from PPG for almost one year now. I have been ignored countless
times by everyone from Fred, Chantel, Ashley, and Kaleo, (please see below messages). At this
point there is only one explanation as to why every single person with PPG locally that I've dealt
with would continually ignore me, and that's because your company simply doesn't care about
their customers. To be ignored a few times could innocently be explained, but the level of being
blown off that I've experienced by this many people this many times is clearly intentional. The
philosophy of many companies, especially here in Hawaii is that if you ignore people long enough
they will eventually just give up and go away.
When I called and spoke with Ashley on August 24, 2023 regarding PPG’s determination that
PPG was not at fault for the blistering of paint all over our house, I didn't feel like I was being told
the full story. I asked Ashley about the results of the three samples taken for the destructive test,
and she verified that while one of the samples was found to have “surface contamination” the
other two samples were fine. I further questioned how a determination was made against us if
two of the three samples were found to have no issues. Ashley said that since we had waited so
long between coats, first painting in June of 2021 and then October of 2021 (which they based
solely off of our receipts from PPG) then that is most likely what contributed to the surface
contamination of the one sample. I told Ashley that we didn’t paint in June of 2021 and that we
painted both coats of paint in late October of 2021 when my husband Ben was done with his other
house remodeling projects that took priority over painting the exterior of our house. No one even
bothered to ask us WHEN we painted the first and second coats. They all just assumed that we
painted in June of 2021 and then again in October of 2021 and made the determination based on
their false assumptions. Further, if we had waited 4 months to paint between coats, then
common sense would indicate that all 3 samples would have had “surface contamination”.
We are the type of people who research extensively in order to get our many, many house
projects done as thoroughly and accurately as possible, because we don’t have time to make
mistakes and redo everything. The most infuriating part of all of this was the section of the letter
that read, “This, coupled with the likelihood of improper surface preparation in some areas will
almost certainly lead to product performance issues.” Before we started painting with PPG, Ben
cleaned the entire exterior of our house using a new house scrub brush, Krud Kutter House &
Siding Pressure Washer Concentrate and our new Greenworks Pressure Washer in order to
remove any sediment. After allowing it to dry completely Ben then taped over all of our brand new
windows (installed in March of 2021) to protect them from any paint overspray. He then used our
new Graco Magnum paint sprayer and extension pole and painted the main color of the exterior of
our house (Indian River BM 985), and after that was dried he painted the second coat. I then
      10/25/23, 4:59 PM AOL Mail - *** RESIDNCE FINDINGS
      about:blank 2/5
went out and joined him to help paint the two coats of the rest of the house colors, Shaker Beige
HC 45, Muskoka Trail BM 974, and Hasbrouck Brown HC 71 (all done in late October).
I told Ashley all of this on my August 24, 2023 phone call with her. She said she would talk to
Kaleo and inform him that both coats of paint were painted in late October of 2021 and not in
June of 2021 and then again in October of 2021. She said that might make a difference, but that
it would be up to him. On August 24, 2023 I sent Ashley an email with photos showing the house
completely painted on October 30, 2021 and said I didn’t know if the photos would help, but those
were the only photos I could find regarding our exterior painting project. I never heard back from
Ashley. I then sent Ashley another email dated October 1, 2023 asking what the status was. I
      never heard back from Ashley.
On October 2, 2023 I then called Kaleo and left a voicemail telling him about my conversation with
Ashley in August and asking what the status was. I also said I couldn’t understand why anyone
would make the assumption that we painted two coats of paint on the exterior of our house four
months apart. To date, I have not heard back from Kaleo. Sadly, this is not the first time that
Kaleo has blown me off. It’s inexcusable that any company would feel it’s ok to treat their
customers with so much disrespect and to just ignore them in the hopes that they will just give up
and go away. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding this matter.

Mrs. ***, I'm not sure when you posted this last message but it is my understanding that you were provided replacement product on November 7.  You also signed a General Release upon receipt of the product.  I appreciate you bringing this to my attention.  PPG considers this matter resolved.

      Customer Answer

Kaleo with PPG Paints brought over 4 gallons of paint and various painting supplies, which my husband and I hope to use very soon in order to fix the blistering sections of paint on the exterior of our house.  This gesture was incredibly generous of PPG Paints and very much appreciated.  With that said, it doesn’t excuse the fact that so many people with this company felt it was perfectly acceptable to continually ignore me in the hopes that I would eventually just give up and go away.  This has taken one full year to get resolved, and the only reason it finally got resolved was because I filed a complaint with the BBB.  I am extremely grateful to the BBB for their services that encourage companies to come to the table with their customers over disputes in order to find some form of resolution.  I consider this matter closed.

I originally purchased pain from your store on Kingston Pike in Knoxville TN on 20233-07-01 and 2022-07-05 and had my house painted. Over the course of a couple of months I noticed that the paint wasn't holding up and struggling to cure. I started called the store and have called them a variety of times over the past couple of months. Originally I called in to ask what is going on due to the poor paint quality. I eventually spoke to the store manager Bob who straight up informed me that I apparently purchased the lowest grade paint, when I first purchased the paint I informed them of the color I wanted but was never offered any type of paint quality. Besides that this paint has never once cured in my house. Even after a year and touch ups it still bleed through the walls in random spots. A single spec of water will take the paint right off, and even the eggshell version of the paint can't hold up to water with a wipedown. I spoke to the store multiple times and always asked for Bob since he was the manager and spoke to him twice. He offered replacement paint and I said I'm fine repainting my house but I'm not painter and can't do the edging. He told me tough luck after I asked for assistance in repaintining my house. He said he would ask and has dodged my calls for months on end every time I'm called in.

Now I'm out hundreds of dollars in paint and $2800 in the pain job because of this garbage quality paint. I told Bob multiple times I would gladly invite him out or at a bare minimum send pictures to show that the pain is defective on top of being garbage quality and he has refused to acknowledge this each and every time.

I want proper good quality paint and my house repainted to cover this defective paint. I'll gladly work with PPG but I don't have the time or a few grand to repaint my house myself especially when I was solid defective paint.

This is not even right. Your store mixed 2 stains for me I specifically said I need opaque. Both stains were mixed semi transparent and will not take back! Now I’m out almost $100.00 due to your store employees mixing the wrong order! I need my money returned and you take your product back! I’m very dissatisfied in your service in this store. I need opaque stain period. Had to go to Lowe’s to get the right stuff! I know they’re just doing what PPG is told to do but 2 stains mixed incorrectly this is your fault not mine and I want my money back! Placing a complaint with the BBB I need my money returned now!

Brought 3 cans of Oylmpic WaterGuard Sealer 3.78 L at Home Depot that I applied two coats on my deck on June 25th 2022 and looked beautiful. On April 15th 2023 almost 10 months later most of the sealer totally faded and looks terrible. I can send you some photos if you wish. Just wish you can help me in anyways. It’s the Maple Brown Sade. I would need to redo the Whole deck front and back at my property.
      Thank You
