I started working with this company in October 2021. There was a leak in my upstairs bathroom causing damage to the ceiling and walls of the downstairs bathroom. The leak has been going on for some time, resulting in substantial damage and mold. A plumber repaired the leak at my expense and ServiceMaster was contracted to repair the resulting damage, as covered by my insurance. In a process that took over a year, the company came out to remove the ceiling, remove the walls, treat for mold, reinstall the ceiling and walls, and paint the new surfaces. Weeks or months passed between each service. Finally they completed the ceiling and almost immediately water started coming back! I called a plumber who said there are no issues in the upstairs bathroom. I called the HVAC  team and they took pictures inside the vent. They found the vent was deteriorating from rust, likely from the leak of nearly a year and a half ago. The condensation from the open ductwork is causing condensation to develop and leak. I went back to the ServiceMaster company who said yes, they had seen the developing rust on the vent system, but decided not to replace it because they didn't think it was due to the current leak. It most assuredly was due to the leak as there had never been another issue in that area and would have been covered by my insurance company because it was all part of the structural damage caused by the leak. However since they did nothing about it and just put the surrounding roof back up the roof was immediately destroyed. Now they are demanding an additional $1,000 payment when all of their work is ruined and I need to start all over because they didnt do the job.

Thank you for sending over this complaint from **** ***** as we take customer satisfaction very seriously.

We strive very hard to do excellent work and we have done so since 1985.

Here is a situation where a pre-existing condition becomes a problem when it is unrelated to the insurance claim and insurance companies do not cover preexisting damage.

The original claim was a pipe leak that caused damage to the bathroom ceiling.  The insurance does not cover the pipe repair but does cover the resulting damage which is to repair the ceiling.

Insurance company pays for the repair but does not pay for the insured's deductible.  In this case the $1000.00 deductible which is what she does not want to pay.

A quick time frame.   We received the notification on 10/28/21  -  Date of the loss was 10/27/21 - we inspected the property and the insurance company approved the estimate on 11/1.

We reached out to **** ***** and she was not sure who/what she was going to do with the repairs but said she had another leak and she would call us after she had determined where the leak was coming from.

Claim from our side was closed as we had not heard anything after a couple calls.

3/14/22 **** ***** reached out to us and stated she was ready for the repairs.  We sent her a contract and she signed it on 4/21/22.  She returned with no deposit.  At this point we needed to have the insurance company reissue the check as it had expired.

Work was able to be started and completed the first week in June.  It took until 8/17/22 for paint colors to be received from **** *****.  Several phone calls and emails were sent.  Painting was completed on 8/20/22

Please note: the issue with the ductwork is a result of the ductwork sweating over the years.  See attached photo.  The corrosion is not a result of a simple pipe leak.  When duct work is not wrapped or insulated it sweats from condensation as the cool air goes through the ductwork and the surrounding air is warm and humid thus causing condensation on the metal ductwork.

Our company decision was to write off the $1000 as uncollected receipts at the end of our fiscal year.  We will not be collecting her $1000 and we will not be insulating her ductwork unless she is willing to pay for it.
