Affordable Comfort Contracting, INC. installed a new **** system in my home in September 2021. From the outset, the installation had multiple issues:The air handler was installed partially behind a door frame, making it impossible to insert or remove the air filter without bending it. This design flaw impacts both the efficiency and lifespan of the **** system. The outdoor unit's drainage was not properly disclosed before installation, leading to standing water under the unit year-round. In winter, this water freezes, creating a hazardous path on the primary entrance and exit to my home.On December 24, 2024, the system failed entirely. On December 26, I contacted Affordable Comfort to schedule a repair but was told my account was marked as inactive since I had not scheduled service with them and this likely voided my warranty.I hired ** ****** to repair the unit. They found a large piece of foam from shipping wedged in the blower assembly, causing damage to the blower wheel. This foam, originally between the blower assembly and air handler wall, should have been removed during installation. This oversight by Affordable Comfort Contracting, INC. resulted in a $560 repair bill. While waiting two weeks for parts to arrive, I had to rely on alternative heating methods. My two-month-old baby, suffering from RSV at the time, was put at significant risk due to the lack of heat in our home. When I attempted to contact Affordable Comfort to discuss this, they denied this occurred, stated they have other units in the field with the foam still in them, and again accused me of not maintaining my unit, claiming they believe a dirty air filter caused damage to the external heat pump (a part that was not damaged). The lack of accountability and subpar workmanship from Affordable Comfort Contracting, INC. is unacceptable. I am seeking reimbursement of the $560 repair bill and a formal acknowledgment of their failure to meet basic installation and service standards.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/22/2025

I am responding to a complaint issue, please see my answers to all questions pertaining to the complaint:

      1)  The door frame issue:  Customer wanted to move the location from the initial location due to water heater replacement and well tank being in the same closet.  The filter although having to bend slightly to remove was not impeding in operation of the system.

      2)  The heat pumps by design to defrost periodically and cause water below the unit.

      3)  There was NO maintenance on the system for over 3 years.  Mr. ****** did call the office but did not want to pay emergency service pricing.  A follow up call was made to him after christmas revealed he got the unit working.

      4)  Mr. ****** did send a picture of the system and his concerns.  It was most likely the air filter was plugged/clogged due to no maintenance and lock out of heat pump unit.  Which after a new filter installed and unit reset the unit will start and function normally.

      5)  The foam which Mr. ****** is speaking of is glued in the system at time of manufacturing the unit from manufacture and does not need to be removed.  The foam would require force to remove.

      6)  Mr. ****** has called the office in regards to his service received by another company, ** ******.  I personally returned his call to discuss his concerns.  He stated his desire for Affordable Comfort Contracting, Inc. to reimburse him for the service that ** ****** had provided.  I explained what I saw in his provided picture with a plugged/clogged air filter and heat pump lock out.  He immediately started on a verbal attack on Affordable Comfort Contracting, *** and me personally.  After using profanity, which any company and or human being would not tolerate, besides being very unprofessional, he hung up the phone on me.  I was not even given the opportunity or chance to suggest a meaningful resolution, Mr. ****** continued to slander Affordable Comfort Contracting, Inc. and me personally.  People/Customers make their own choice to either maintain their heating and cooling system or not to, even though all the documentation the owners receive at the time of providing a proposal to the installation of the equipment indicate and state what the maintenance requirements are as per manufacture as to not void the warranty of said equipment from the manufacture.  We as a company can only provide the resources to maintain operation of their equipment, the owners are responsible to make sure that they are taking care of their property/equipment.
