S&A built our home in March, 2022. When we went to sign the contract, they raised the price of our home by $10,000 and they claimed it was due to lumber prices. After doing some research, (after purchase) we discovered other people in different time periods experienced the same issue. When we moved in there were still some issues that needed resolved and believed to be completed through their warranty (punch) process. For instance, our half bathroom in the first floor has no heating/cooling hvac. We were told that the size of the bathroom is too small to have any hvac in it. However, our water lines froze during the winter and the bathroom is bitter cold unless we keep the door open. Our hot water heater is a 50 gallon tank, but the plans show an 80 gallon tank. When questioning this, we were told they dont make 80 gallon tanks for residential homes and it is just a general reference on the plans. The second floor in our house feels like the subfloor popping up when you walk on it. These issues were raised several times and were never addressed. We continued to raise these issues and received no response through the S&A Homes homeowner portal. We would like the **** completed in our half bathroom, subfloor addressed properly, and the 80 gallon hot water tank installed as shown on the house plans.

I am deeply concerned and dissatisfied with the outstanding issues and lack of communication I have experienced since the completion of my new home by S&A Homes on 8/11/2022. Despite my specific request for outlets to be placed above all of my cabinets, S&A failed to complete this installation. Promised installation within a couple of months during the closing has not been fulfilled even after nearly a year. Repeated attempts to address the issue and contact S&A's corporate offices have been met with unanswered calls, leaving me feeling neglected.

I am deeply disappointed and feel that S&A has neglected its responsibilities toward me as a customer. I suspect they may be intentionally delaying the resolution of these issues to let my one-year warranty expire. This post-construction experience has significantly affected my perception of S&A as a reputable builder, and I cannot recommend them. I am filing this complaint in the hopes of avoiding legal action and requesting that S&A address and rectify these concerns promptly. Proper communication, timely resolution, and accountability for the mistakes made during the construction process are essential to restore my confidence in S&A Homes' commitment to customer satisfaction.

S&A apologizes for the length of time it has taken to complete the work in *** ****** home as well as our lack of communication in the matter.  We certainly would never delay installing parts of a home to get past the one-year warranty mark because if we promise to complete or install an item we will- regardless of a warranty milestone.  The outlets above the cabinets were installed on June 15th.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

S&A did install the outlets above the cabinets and fix the standalone tub on 6/15. I have not been back home yet, but I received confirmation from them that this work has been done.

But I also listed the concrete sidewalk that S&A did not communicate with me about. The driveway was built across the sidewalk and then had to be ripped out and installed. This was because did not communicate about the sidewalk, so I did not have the information to pass along to the people doing the work. I travel most of the month, so the majority of the post construction work was done while I was away. Information and communication was key. Because I did not have the necessary information I could not properly communicate with the company doing the driveway. Also, it was explained to me that the sidewalk was my responsibility because it is part of the building process, but I have spoken to various neighbors who had their homes built and they have told me that their sidewalks were not turn apart. It seems like there were various avenues that could have been taken and S&A took a costly one by tearing out the sidewalk.

S&A also has not addressed a bill the have left at my feet that I had no involvement in. I do not understand why this is such a misunderstanding. They hired a company. They told the company what needed to be done. They told the company when to arrive. They told the company when the work was properly done. I never spoke to this company about this until I received an invoice. How in the world is this on me? However S&A wants to spin this, if the responsibility is on me, then I should've had the right to hire who I wanted to. Maybe I could've received a more competitive price. Their approach tells us that they knew that this was their responsibility.

Again, it is very unfortunate how S&A has handled me post construction, but I need S&A to address the issues above.

      Regards,

      ******** *****

Upon review of the situation, we believe we could have communicated better with *** ***** as it relates to the installation of the sidewalk.  S&A will be in communication with *** ***** to let him know we will be covering the $2,500 invoice that he is referring to and we apologize for any inconvenience.
