karnuts had impounded my trailer from a private property per the Pennsylvania state police. I was told my car trailer was previously loaded and then told a different story that karnuts had loaded stolen property onto my car trailer and doing damage which would seem my trailer totaled. Since then the Owen Bernie was very rude and did not want to return my property. He also went through my tool box and I am missing items that were impounded with the trailer. I have pictures of the trailer in karnuts impound lot prior to the day I was allowed to pick it up. The trailer was towed on 8/31/23 and picked up from karnuts on 9/06/23. The business keeps changing the story as to who loaded the truck and who did the damage and the state police are of no help trying to protect their contractor. Karnuts is known in the area for misusing and damaging property that is not theirs. It would be nice to see some form or attempt to right the situation.

    Business Response

    Date: 10/23/2023

First, this letter addressed to Karnuts Auto Center LLC, is incorrect, as is the complaint. Karnuts Auto Center is not a towing company and is not involved in towing procedures.

The company that towed the trailer was Karnuts Towing and Salvage LLC. Located at 61 Farragut St. Uniontown, PA 15401. So please retract this complaint against Karnuts Auto Center immediately as they had no parts in the towing procedure.

In response to the complaint about the towing of the trailer owned by ***** ****** *** Let me start by saying that my establishment has been in business for over 40 years and has had no formal complaints filed. We follow the explicit instruction by the Pennsylvania State Police, pertaining to requests for towing vehicles. If Mr. ****** had done his research and spoke with the Uniontown State Police Barracks and one of the lead investigators, LT Daniel ****, he would have been able to get full details of the instructions we were given on what to tow, and how long to hold it for the State Police and for the Fire Marshal to investigate.

Procedure was done as follows, Karnuts Towing and Salvage received a state police phone call for a request of tow from dispatch. They requested a flat bed tow truck to tow the back end of a burned pickup truck, and a truck with a trailer hitch to tow a trailer with the remains of a burned, stolen pick up truck on the trailer. An additional driver and I showed up on ******* ********** **. and met a state trooper, who took us down a small trail into a field area. In that field area was a trailer with a burned cab of a ford F550 truck on the trailer, and approximately 100 yards further in the field was the back end of that ford F550 that was cut in half from the cab. The state police were taking multitudes of pictures because there were parts, and tools spread on the field as well. The state police instructed us to pull the trailer back to the shop with the cab on it and to load the remains of the rest of the truck and remove it from the scene and hold it for further investigation, and the fire marshal to look it over. My office immediately started to receive phone calls from Mrs. ****** about picking up her trailer. We were instructed by PSP to not release the trailer until the fire marshal looked at it. We kept receiving phone calls about the release of the trailer, after explaining numerous times we could not release it. We also received a phone call from an attorney, **** *******, to whom I personally explained what was going on, he understood and said he would relay the message to his client. I personally spoke with her at one point, and told her as soon as I got the OK I would remove the truck from the trailer and she could pick the trailer up. The same day that the fire marshal arrived, we removed the cab from the trailer, pulled the trailer out of the storage area onto the roadway for easy customer pick up.

NOTE: We never loaded the cab onto the trailer to use it for transportation, the burned cab of the truck was already on the trailer at the crime scene, we were in fact instructed to tow the trailer with the cab on it by the state police. The customer also complained that the trailer was dirty, and his toolbox was gone through. We in fact put tools and tiedown straps back in his toolbox and on the trailer that were left in the field as a kind gesture. We did not have to do that. Karnuts Towing and Salvage is not responsible for cleaning his trailer and organizing his toolbox. We did and as we always will follow the instructions of the Pennsylvania State Police whether the customer likes it or not. If anybody would like to request more evidence, than I provided in the letter simply call the PSP Uniontown Barracks * **** ********. They will have many pictures from the crime scene, with a burned cab on the trailer and parts and tools scattered throughout the field, and the back half of the truck. Also, you may request a transcript of the dispatch call by the PSP to Karnuts Towing and Salvage requesting 2 trucks, one for the back of the truck, and another with a trailer hitch to tow the trailer with a burned cab.

I never take a pickup truck with a trailer hitch to an accident or crime scene because normally they need a tow truck, in this case I needed a pickup with a trailer hitch specifically per request. Ask the 6-8 state troopers that were at the scene if you need more information. After reading this complaint I can think no more that this is completely ludicrous, sorry that the customer is not happy, but we just follow instructions per the state police, and he received the trailer back the same day the fire Marshall looked at it, and the state police released it. To my knowledge as the owner, no one in this office was rude to the owners, but direct stating they could not pick up the trailer until it was released.

    Regards,
    Bernie K********
