We took my daughter's car to JD Auto Body, based on their estimate. When they found out what the insurance **mpany was paying her, they increased their bill to match that amount, without ever calling us for approval - ultimately stealing $600 from a **llege student. Here is what happened: My daughter was hit from behind and the other driver's insurance **mpany paid her directly for the damage. Since her car is paid off, she got to decide whether to have the damage fixed or keep the money. She chose to have it repaired based on the estimate provided by ************- which left her with some money that she **uld use for school. ************ then asked us to send them the insurance **mpany's estimate. We now know we should not have since they weren't involved with the insurance. When we received the bill, I challenged them on their new higher total- which was an EXACT MATCH with what the insurance **mpany provided us. The response from ******* was that they didn't need to get approval from us since they were "working with the insurance **mpany" They were not. They were working with us. It was now my daughter's money. Three discussions were had with employees at ************ to make this right. We called them out on their bill increasing to the EXACT amount of the insurance money provided to my daughter. After pointing that out repeatedly, when I went to get the car, they had increased the bill again (I believe because they realized how the exact match looked) and made me not only pay the full amount provided to us by the insurance ** ($600 more than we authorized) but sign a paper so the insurance **mpany will pay them $300 more to meet their now new bill. These unauthorized charges are theft and the employees were demanding and unapologetic. This was clearly intended to scam the insurance **mpany and ended up scamming and stealing from an 18 year old making her way through **llege on a budget, who chose them based on what they promised.

    Business Response

Please be advised that I have been retained to represent **** **********************, which is located in the Municipality of **********, County of ********* and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
I am writing in response to your request relative to the Consumer Complaint filed against **** Auto Body by Ms. ******** I believe that I can best address this Complaint by responding as follows, chronologically:

On November 13, 2024, **** *******, of **** Auto Body, examined a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox and prepared an estimate of record, attached hereto and marked as Exhibit 1. As you can see, the total amount of the estimate of necessary repairs totals $2,779.31. Subsequent to Mr. ******* preparing his estimate, Ms. ******** husband dropped off to **** Auto Body an estimate of record prepared by ***** ***** of *************** attached hereto and marked as Exhibit 2, which shows a total cost of repairs as $3,348.42. This estimate was provided approximately two weeks prior to the work being performed on the Equinox.

Upon further examination of the vehicle, once the repairs were undertaken, it was discovered by one of the body technicians that there was additional damage that was not apparent until the repair work had begun. Mr. ******* prepared a supplemental estimate concerning this damage, which is attached hereto and marked as Exhibit 3. This supplemental estimate is evidenced as part of the original job number assigned by **** Autobody. I direct your attention to Exhibit 3, page 5 which shows that the supplement labeled as "Supplement S01" prepared by Mr. ******* is in the amount of $257.87. Upon Ms. ******** picking up the vehicle from **** Autobody, she authorized the insurance carrier to pay **** Autobody directly for any supplemental repairs to the vehicle. This authorization is attached hereto and marked as Exhibit 4. This supplemental record, which was submitted to **************, was approved on November 19, 2024, after their review. Enclosed herewith are true and correct copies of the correspondence from Mr. ***** (the original adjuster for *************** indicating that the supplemental report and work completed was approved by the carrier. Also enclosed herewith is a true and correct copy of the check issued to **** Autobody on December 13, 2024, from ***********************

It is the position of **** Autobody that the supplemental damage would not have been discoverable until the vehicle was broken down; evidence of the damage was then discovered by their technician. I would further add that upon the breaking down of the vehicle for repairs, it was noticed by the technician that the rebar on the vehicle had rusted away, and **** Autobody performed those repairs on the 2016 Equinox in good faith, at no cost to the customer or the insurance carrier. Had they charged the customer for such repairs, they believe the approximate costs to repair the rebar would have totaled approximately $200.00.

After your review of this matter, should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. I thank you for your consideration in this and other matters.

    Sincerely,

    ***** E. **** & ASSOCIATES, P.C.
