    I visited the offices of Fischer Cunnane on November 29th, 2023 to meet with R. S. and C. M. in preparation for the 2024 tax season. I was changing jobs and looking for a more guided tax preparation process than turbo tax. I explained my tax needs and was quoted a price. The experience described to me, in terms of what I should expect in hiring a CPA firm was wildly different than the experience of actually working with them. I was grossly overcharged, I never spoke to anyone in person or on the phone (only email) and the technology to submit documentation was archaic. I expressed that I felt misled and was ghosted. I've let colleagues seeking referrals know to stay away. Super frustrating waste of time and resources.

    To Whom It May ******************** letter is in response to Complaint ID ********.

    We disagree with the customers statements that,
    a)she was quoted a price for preparing her tax return on 11/29/23 
    b)she was grossly overcharged. 

    We explained to her during the 11/29/23 office visit that our firm charges by the hour at rates that vary depending on the experience level of the individual(s) working on the tax return. We advised the customer of a $1,500 minimum fee according to firm policy; however, we did not quote a price on 11/29/23 as we wouldnt have known in advance how much time it would take to prepare her tax return.  

    Our standard engagement letter (attached) was subsequently emailed to the customer on 1/16/24, reiterating that we charge by the hour. Consistent with the 11/29/23 discussion, the letter did not include a price quote for preparing the tax return.  Upon receiving the engagement letter the customer did not contact us with questions about our billing policy.

    We prepared the tax return as requested by the customer, which was delivered electronically on 3/25/24.  The engagement fee of $2,096.25 was invoiced on 3/26/24 in accordance with the policy outlined in the engagement letter.  The customer requested an accounting for the amount charged, which was provided by us in writing.
