    Scheduled chimney inspect/clean at $150 on 5-Jan-2024. Two parts of chimney: (1) for hot water tank, (2) for wood-burning fireplace. (1) was causing CO2 buildup. (2) routine inspect. Tech (******) arrived 3pm, 5-Jan w/helper. **** stated (1) had blockage, $700 to clear. He stated (2) needed cleaning, and recoating. He stated $2500 for both jobs: $700 for (1) and $1800 for (2). He stated both fully functional after. He said (2) coating would cover up to roof. Tech wanted 1/2 money up front, 1/2 at completion. He stated no checks and credit card is 3%. Debit card or Zelle to avoid fees. No written contract. **** said tested (1) and ok. He asked for fire in (2). Fire burned for short time, he said ok. **** took 2nd payment and left. I went into basement and there was a haze and strong smoke odor. I texted tech, he said "gonna have to come back on a day we can get on the roof". I told him Id reschedule. He instructed not to schedule w/office, theyre "not based in the **", need to come back "when the roof is pretty much clean" - i.e. no snow (spring). Opened windows in basement, closed fireplace and monitored. Not been able to use fireplace. Water heater is on low. I called main ph# 3-4x since service date. Asked to talk w/manager/owner, they said not possible, only notes in account and message Tech. Asked to speak with someone about a refund - no call back from any company rep. **** told me he works for an owner. Speaking with another local contractor, there are only 2 businesses in area **** certified. Improper work is a fire safety risk. Based on certified pricing, even if work was done properly by certified technician, itd be 1/2. They stated Tech could not have done thorough inspection without using a camera all the way up/down chimney and a close-up inspection of the roof top part. They stated only lower firebox portion can be properly repaired with fire ***** not all. CO2 level has gone down with (1) on low. (2) not safe for use during coldest time of season.
