My town (Lexington) hired Thielsch Engineering to replace my water meter. Within a few days of the installation the unit started leaking and damaged belongings my basement. I called Thielsch Engineering multiple times over several weeks informing them of this issue and they were supposed to have a supervisor call me back and that never happened. Today they showed up and were unable to fix the meter. Looking for Thielsch Engineering to reimburse me for damages to items in my basement that got wet after they incorrectly installed my meter creating the damage.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/02/2023

My name is ************************* and I represent the *** business of **************************************** I am in receipt of your letter dated Friday March 17, 2023 referencing a complaint filed by *************, of ************************************************************; 02420.

Our version of events is very different from those reported by Mr. ***************************** February 24th, our project supervisor, ************************* went to **************** to respond to a complaint about a water meter that was leaking.  Mr. **** indicated that the new water meter started leaking a couple days after it was installed on January 20th and that he made several calls to our company for help.  Our company records all incoming calls and there is no record of Mr. **** attempting to reach us by telephone.  We were requested to visit the house by the Town of Lexington the prior day, February 23rd.

**************** went to the basement to view this issue and found that the home was under construction with most of it gutted.  The basement was unfinished and had vey little in it other than insulation and scraps of garbage from the construction.  At the water meter, **************** instantly noticed that new repairs had been done on plumbing directly after the water meter.  The tailpiece before the meter was off and laying on the ground.  The water meter was also off and laying on the ground.  Mr. **** stated that the plumber was required to do this because the meter was leaking.  **************** inspected the meter and saw a large gash/hole on the inlet side of the water meter.  It was clear to ****************, who has nine years of experience installing water meters, that the meter had been damaged or potentially had frozen and blown a hole from the expansion of water.  **************** noticed that there was no heat in the basement.

We have photographic evidence from when we installed the meter in January.  The installation was clean.  There was no water leaking on either side of the meter.  ************** answer is illogical because the water could be shut off if there was a leak.  ****************** assessment was that the meter had been damaged through outside forces not related to the installation.  We reported our findings to the Town.

We disagree with the report filed by Mr. **** and his version of the events.  Photos are taken in every meter setting to ensure that the quality of our work is impeccable.  The circumstances surrounding the leak, of whatever magnitude, are most likely due to the homeowner's negligence.
