I contracted with College Hunks to move from **************************************** to ************************************************** on Aug 14, 2024. I communicated in writing and verbally with the main moving company many times and was given an estimateof the cost prior to the move. The final cost was MUCH more than the estimate. I am not complaining about the total cost. My complaint is that College Hunks clearly stated several times that my items would be wrapped and this service was INCLUDED in the cost. However, the movers did not wrap my items but instead used protection services that had an extra cost. The movers did not ask me first if this was ok or even tell me they were doing this. When I received the bill I assumed it was high because the time went over. There was no itemized invoice at the time of payment. This was not an issue for me because I though I had only 1 service. Only later did I find out that the movers did this. Also, I asked verbally and in writing if my $25 coupon would be accepted and was told "yes". My $25 coupon was never applied. Now the main office who I contracted with is telling me that I have to deal with the local office. The local office is ignoring me. Here are the charges I am disputing:$25 for coupon ******* 08/14/2024 Moving 10lb Box of Packing Paper $15.00 1 $15.00 ******* 08/14/2024 Moving 4-pc Mirror Pack $8.00 3 $24.00 ******* 08/14/2024 Moving Mattress Bag $10.00 1 $10.00 Total $74 (Total paid $775 check#*** 8.14.2024 TB Bank - deposited by Deez, Inc.)Customer Answer

- Date: 11/30/2022 - Amount: $2,800.25 - Business commitment: Junk removal at $775/truck, estimated at 1.5 trucks given an accurate list of items. Non-priced commitments: "recycling", "donating meals"- Nature of dispute: total price tag was about $1,200+ higher than expected, and about $1,000 higher than a local competitor. Price for special items (eg: mattress) were not disclosed in advance. Given competition, essentially a bait-and-switch. Misleading marketing: they didn't recyle anything despite many recyclable/donation-worthy items (everything went to the dump in ********, **), and they donated two meals (IRS: value of 11cents/meal) on a $2,800 bill, which can only be characterizerd as ridiculous and "virtue-signalling". On top of that, they also heavily damaged a hardwood floor by trying to speed up their job.- Tried to resolve: business was slow to respond ("manager on holiday") and blamed the "industry" standards instead of their own problems. After multiple exchanges they offered $240, less than the tip that we left!! ($360) and a lot less than the amount in dispute.Business Response

Businesses and Customers should be civil, courteous and polite in their responses to complaints. It is important to remain professional and productive when participating in the BBB complaint process. The business did not address any of my points in a satisfactory way, displays the same level of carelessness as in all of my communications with them, placing the blame on both the client and "how the industry operates" (which a low-level manager admitted: "we just follow the industry standard", how imperfect that might be).
The business did not address any of my points in a satisfactory way, displays the same level of carelessness as in all of my communications with them, placing the blame on both the client and "how the industry operates" (which a low-level manager admitted: "we just follow the industry standard", how imperfect that might be).
1.The manager admits that their "estimate" was widely off the ****,despite the fact that our list was accurate (which he does not dispute). If that's not "bait and switch", I'm not sure. It's ok to be 10-20% off the **** from your initial estimate. 150% seems a little excessive.
2.The "bait and switch" is even stronger given the competitor's quote, which was firm. The competitor DID visit our home (I'm not sure why the manager would lie about that), please see the attached email exchange with the lower-level manager which dates from then. Also the quote that other company gave us was $1,450, not the amount that the manager made up in his answer.(Again, see email exchange, which the manager clearly hasnt read). Im not sure who this manager is comparing itself too, but these were local people, not some big-brand big-****up company.
3.Regarding false ****eting of recycling: crews being "incentivized"does nothing if the incentive is very low. Most of our furniture was in perfect working condition, as were some small appliances. Many items were in new, unopened condition (for example, a "smoothie" maker which we forgot to tag as not-to-junk). Clearly, the workers arrived with 1 and only 1 truck, and the claim that they would separate "recyclable stuff" from non-recyclable ones in the truck is dubious at best. Another case for "false advertising".
4. Regarding false ****eting of meal donation: please against see email exchange, where the company clearly states: Thank you for hiring us to complete your job, we will donate 2 meals to U.S. Hunger!. The non-profit Feeding America donates 10 meals for every $1 donated. Clearly, donating 2 meals to U.S. hunger on a $2,800 bill is at best false virtue signaling, altought I see it as clear false ****eting. The manager specifies that their headquarters donates something, but carefully does not mention any amount, nor whether the 2 meals donated is what that part of the donation is or not.
5.See attached pictures of the scraches. They were taken a few days after, upon request from college hunks. I dont see this part as essential to my complaint. Its just adding insult to injury that the manager flatly denies it.
6.Regarding surcharges: the fact that the surcharges could have been discussed on site but werent because the client wasnt there altough his spouse was is not only a lie, it doesnt even pass the smell test. First, they could have informed my wife, and they didnt. Second, I was there at the start of the job.I just had to leave shortly after due to a plumbing emergency in the property we were moving to. Third, we had not appliances removed just one mattress.Fourth, fuel should not be a surcharge, its part of operating costs. Fifth, these surcharges should be clearly stated during the estimation section.
7.Regarding the gratuity: typical manager component, who does not understand that a tip is intended for WORKERS and not upper management. My wife, who is a generous person (but sadly ****, as she should have never paid for the total amount) felt that the workers on site did a good job, and deserved a tip. She did not even realized that she paid a $360 tip, which was quoted in percentage points of the total job (another great behavior from this agency!). Regardless, this tip was in appreciation of the workers job, not of the absolute scam that their management is running.
I plan to escalate this complaint to the small claims court as well as the *** regarding the false ****eting component). Let me know if the BBB can help me with this matter.
