We hired RC construction to move loom and put gravel in our driveway. On April 25, 2025 the owner ***** arrived at our home at ******************************* around 7:30 AM. My husband ****** spoke to him about putting gravel down in the driveway. We wanted 3/4 inch gravel. ***** stated that process gravel would be better and more cost efficient. We agreed to use the process gravel because we had used before and it worked out OK. The price for the job was originally $1300. ****** changed it to 1450 which we agreed. we gave ****** a 1300 in cash and 150 in a check written to RC construction. ***** worked in the yard until the gravel arrived. The owners of the gravel company are ****** in-laws. When the truck arrived my husband and I both felt like that there was something wrong with the gravel it was very ***** ***** and didnt look like process gravel that we had prior. ***** assured us that the gravel was good. 1 hour later I looked outside and it just didnt seem right. It looked like dirt in the driveway. I went outside Voiced my concern, was told that it would be fine. It was as good as concrete. My husband paid *****. He did not receive a receipt. The next morning we realized we did not get a receipt. It rained heavy Saturday morning . We went out to our cars We were sinking into the driveway, My husband called. ***** told him we were not happy with the product and it was like quicksand in our driveway. ***** agreed to come by and take a look at it. he came by tried to say that it was OK that it would get better. He say it was just in the low spots that we were sinking down because of the rain. We showed him a high spot It was still happening. Our shoes were covered with mud. Finally, ***** did agree that it was bad material. He stated that he did receive bad material from the company before also.We agreed that he would come back on Monday, but he never showed up. My husband called. He was very irate and said he was not going to fix the driveway Or give us a receipt.

On April 24th, I had received a call from TJ (******) regarding a need to have ************************************** their gravel driveway. He said he would just need it transported to the back yard and dumped into small piles for him to spread. He had also mentioned about getting a load of either crushed stone or gravel delivered to build up their eroded driveway from their garage, down to the new asphalt road that was just put in causing a low spot at the bottom where it meets the road. That same day, I drove out to take a look so I could see what he had mentioned in person. I explained that I would be using a skid steer with a 1/2 yard bucket to transport the loam around his yard and would take a minimum of 30 trips to move the pile of loam which would ******** leave 2 ruts in the path used to drive around his home. He was surprised but agreed and said it was not a problem. He said to just dump them in small manageable piles for him to spread by hand. Next, we went into the front to look over the driveway. It was very hard packed, and I was told that it had not been touched for about 20+ years. He originally stated that they were thinking about adding 4-5 inches of loose crushed stone to the top but then mentioned about having it eventually poured in concrete. To alleviate loose stones from shifting everywhere and to not pay for material twice, we had decided to go with adding gravel so that he would have the proper base material for if and when they decided to pave their driveway in the future. (Later found out this was news to ********). After explaining these options, they agreed to go with 8 yds of gravel to be spread, and to have the loam moved to the back yard for $1300. Following this, I had mentioned that I was booked out for a week or two and they would have to wait and be put on the schedule. He seemed in a rush to have the loam moved and asked if I could do it the following day, April 26th, but I mentioned that there was a torrential heavy rain forecasted to come on Saturday morning which could cause some washout with the slope and pooling of water at the base. I strongly advised to wait but he said he had nothing to cover the loam and didn't want it to get soaked and possibly wash into the driveway. I also would now need to get a rental machine as mine was tied up on another job. Against my better judgment, I said I would help and that we could do the following but made it apparent that this rain could arise some temporary issues with spreading fresh gravel just a day ahead of a heavy downpour. ** agreed so we palnned for the next day. Friday morning, I arrived and I began with transporting the loam to the back yard. Everything was going smoothly with a few miner additional requests along the way including removing an old ***** and moving a gravel bed area in the back yard with some additional grade work not originally agreed to. Once all the piles wire dumped in the rear, then ** asked if I could just spread all of it and regrade half of his back yard. I expressed the scope of work pertaining his originally request but it seemed to go unacknowledged. Again, I started to do addition work to help them out and by then the gravel was in route for delivery. ** asked how many yards of gravel were getting delivered. I told him how many and that's when he asked for 4 more yards to extend it past the area originally measured, hence the price increase from the original $1300 to now $1450. He went inside to ask ********, and they agreed to getting the additional gravel. Once the gravel arrived, it was dumped, signed for and then the truck left. ** asked about the color being tan. I explained to him that it was bank run crushed processed gravel, and it is exactly what they ordered and what they needed for their long term plans they had of pouring concrete over the driveway. We use it for driveway bases and home foundation backfills all the time with no issues. They needed 3/4 crushed stone with the fines in it the help lockup with compaction, I explained. I then spread the load neatly throughout the driveway and up to all the edges of the road, garage, stone walkway and grass area. I began to unload my compactor and that's when ******** came out expressing her concern again about the color. I told her the same thing I told ** and she brushed it off and said "ok I'm sure it'll be fine". I then compacted the entire driveway and loaded up all my equipment. ******** and ** looked at me work and thought it came out great. ******** even said it had looked better now that it had been compacted. The gave me $1300 cash and $150 in a check to make up the difference for their requested changes. We shook hands and they thanked me work the extra things I also done so I thought everything had gone smoothly. The following day I received a voicemail from TJ at 10:56 am saying " Hey Rog, this is TJ man. Ugh can you give me a call as soon as you get a chance. Yeah, I got some not so good news about the driveway. The driveway is not doing well at all, and it basically just started raining pretty much, not even quite 11. So anyway, call me when you get a chance, appreciate it, thank you". Mind you it had been absolutely downpouring since 2am and was just starting to taper off at 11am so I was kind of confused with his message. I promptly call him back at 12:11PM and listened to what he had to say. He said it was all muddy and they were tracking it in the house. Again, I reiterated my original concerns about doing this a day ahead of this storm, and it needed light rain/mother nature to take its course, but he was hearing it and said I needed to come take a look. I agreed and drove over there. Upon arriving, I chuckled at the sight of their driveway. There were no car track marks or sinkage from their ****** pound Jeep and cars driving over it. I did see a damp area at the base where it met the ************ but that was to be expected. The water accentually percolated through the new base, hit the original hard packed gravel and down the hill it went. At this point the rain had just about stopped, and they came outside. We had a little back and forth which is when they proceeded to twist and turn their feet into the gravel making mud from squeezing the moisture out of the gravel to prove a point. The only ones who were "irate" were the two of them and I honestly didn't get what they were asking for me to rectify. They asked for gravel, and I explained that the only option to avoid tracking it in the house would have been the 3/4 clear crushed stone (which they opted away from) or paving the driveway. They said this shouldn't do this and that they wanted me to tear it all out, replace it with new and keep that gravel to use it in another area on the hill if it would save on disposal. I said at that point I needed to go think about it and would let them know on Monday because we simply were not seeing eye to eye. ******** and ** were cornering me into a response, and I said I had my daughter sitting in the truck (for nearly ***** minutes at this point) and needed to think about what to do. ******** then threatened with legal action if I didn't "fix the issue" and then said, "oh and we never received a receipt". After threatening with a lawsuit, she'd then said "I think they thought, let's give the black guy the s*** material" referring to her husband, a man of color and myself/delivery company as now being racist!!! I said, "whoa wait a minute, we are the furthest thing from being racist and that's just uncalled for!" TJ awkwardly now being caught in the middle of his belligerent wife was trying to calm her down and then she said, "Well that's just what it feels like". At that point I was lost for words and needs to leave/cut off all ties with them. Apparently, ******** and ** thought we had left off on a good note which led to them calling me again after Monday had passed looking for documentation for legal action and the pursuit of this here complaint through BBB. All I have to say is that I wish these two the best and it's unfortunate that we ended off the way we did. I even had an additional phone call with ** saying how I had appreciated the conversations he and I had but that I couldn't speak to them further because of the way ******** acted. He got a little defensive with that statement because I could hear ******** in the background listening in on our phone call. Without further delay to my own sanity, I ended all communications with them and am here now to explain my side of the story.
