I purchased a pre-owned boat from Bluenose Yacht Sales, which provided me with a bill of sale. When I went to document the vessel with the **************, I was informed me that the broker (Bluenose Yacht Sales) listed the title of the seller incorrectly on the bill of sale, which is preventing me from documenting the boat until the title is corrected. I requested that the broker, ***** *******, address this four times in the last three weeks, via email: April 1, April 4, April 8, and April 15, and received no response. I spoke with the managing partner of Bluenose Yacht Sales, ***** *******, on April 8, who was also copied on the last three email messages. During that conversation, ***** asked me to send him the denial letter from the ****, which I attached to the email messages on April 8 and April ***** of today, I have received neither a response, nor a corrected bill of sale from Bluenose Yacht Sales, which is preventing me from fulfilling my legal obligation to document the boat.

Mr ***** was advised to use a certified documentation service and was provided information on who our customers use.

The process with **** for filing these documents is a bit complicated and hence these companies exist.  However, he elected to process himself to save $300.  He was advised this was ill advised.

** ***** filed with **** and received correspondence from them describing deficiencies.

It took him several weeks before he sent us adequate information to understand the corrective actions.

These steps are in process and we reject his claims to the contrary.

It is a pity he did not heed our advice to avoid his issues.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 05/14/2025

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.

The response from the business is an unsuccessful attempt to misdirect the issue.  Although the business's comments don't merit a direct response, there is neither a need, nor an obligation, for an owner to use a documentation service to document a vessel, as the **** provides a portal for this purpose.

However, with respect to our complaint, there IS an inherent need and obligation on the part of a boat broker to provide a legally-valid bill of sale, which Bluenose Yachts has still not been able to do in the six weeks since my initial request, as evidenced in the additional attachment.  To fulfill this need, they only need to correct the title of the seller, which they erroneously listed on the original, and obtain a notarized signature by the seller.  For some reason, Bluenose Yachts continues to be unwilling to fulfill their obligation.

      Regards,

      *****

In April of this year 2024, my husband and I purchased a sailboat from Bluenose Yacht Sales. We paid approximately $250,000 in full in April, and were told it would be delivered in June 2024. We expected it to be early in June but were finally give the date for delivery as June 24th. A few days prior to this date we were told that the paint did not come in so it would be delivered on the 28th of June, ** this point we have lost a third of our boating season and have had to pay for a ****** where the boat will be housed. We are out one months cost for that. Next we were called today, June 27th and told that the boat will not be ready until July 5th. This after we had arranged for help sailing it to our ******, took time off from work and planned our entire weekend around the delivery of the boat.
