      Auto dealership charged a $495 closing fee with promise to take care of registration paperwork. Further I had to wait an hour while they "figured out" Minnesota registration paperwork. Finally, I signed a power of attorney agreement to enable them to complete registration. They told me the Minnesota DMV would reach out once paperwork was filed.

      After hearing nothing for several weeks, I began calling dealership. Nobody would return my voicemails. Finally after a month I was able to get help from salesman. Dealership sent me a packet of papers with no instruction to do my own registration. There was an error in sales tax paperwork so I had to return to DMV and wait in line a second time.

      I found online that South Carolina penalty for driving with expired tags is a misdemeanor and dealership is not able to extend 45 day temp tags. This forced me to expedite Minnesota DMV process and mailing of license plates. The entire experience cost a lot of time, money, and concern. I asked the dealership for a partial refund of closing costs as a compromise, but sales manager was unable to offer anything.

      Mr.
      *********** purchased a vehicle from Piedmont Honda on 08/22/2022, this was an
      out of state purchase. The state of South Carolina allows us 30 days from
      purchase date to have all DMV forms completed and sent out to the corresponding
      DMV. In this case, all paperwork was overnighted to Mr. ***********'s DMV, in
      Minnesota, on 9/20/2022. We do acknowledge the fact that an error was made on a
      DMV form. However, we promptly addressed the issue and re sent the corrected
      form via FED EX overnight priority, in order for the customer not to incur
      another delay. A Closing Fee (Documentation) fee is charged on every retail
      transaction in State or out of State, the $450 is registered and approved with
      the The Department of Consumer Affairs in the State of SC, this charge is not
      related to any state tax or DMV fee coverage.  If we have done anything
      that would warrant a reimbursement of unrelated charges, we would have already
      responded and retuned any non-justified charge(s) to the customer, but after
      thorough review of this transaction we find no reason to refund or settle as
      requested.

      The paperwork was not sent to the Minnesota DMV.  It was sent to my home address and I needed to personally complete the closing process.  This is detailed in the original complaint.

      Except for Georgia, all out of state tag and registrations are sent to the customer with dealer completed paperwork, this ensures it stays in the owners possession for safe handling, sending direct to out of state DMV's would be a set up for missing docs or the entire file disappearing. It is hurtful this ended at delivery completely satisfied and turning upsetting during the completion of title/tag and registration.

      This is not what I was told on day of sale.  I hope all out of state buyers are not forced to expedite registration or they should at least be notified in advance.
