We hired Lowcountry Dwelling Services to paint our house before we moved in several weeks ago. When we came to inspect the work we found that they'd unplugged our refrigerator to paint the wall behind it and not plugged it back in resulting in the ice melting all over the floor and ruining the engineered hardwood. The floors are buckled and separated in multiple places.

After a lot of back and forth about how he'd like to remedy this problem, we decided to contact an independent company to give us a quote for replacing the flooring with what we believed to be a comparable flooring. A concern that was brought regarding a repair is that it involves pouring adhesive under the floors and hoping that they will re-adhere and not buckle again but if that doesn't work we have a large amount of brand new adhesive stuck to the subfloor or slab which makes replacing the floors very difficult and expensive. We received our independent quote for replacement yesterday and told him that we would just deduct the cost from what we owe on the final bill.

The owner has said that this is not acceptable as he wants his guys to do this since it will be much cheaper. We aren't comfortable having them come back and either fix or even replace the floors given the damage that was done previously, how long it's been without him doing much to find an acceptable solution and the fact that if something happens to the floors in the future we're stuck dealing with this again. We'd prefer to go with a company that has a warranty we could apply to or something like that. Additionally, his website doesn't list flooring as a service they provide and we have no way of knowing if these people have any experience.

We're very uncomfortable with the situation and aren't sure what to do. I just contacted my local BBB office regarding this, but then saw the complaint button and thought maybe this was the more appropriate channel. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
