We are writing to you in the hopes that you will be able to somehow assist us with an incident that we are currently involved in. On Sept 22, 2023, we were scheduled to close on a house in ********, **. The closing was to be held in attorneys Weiner Shearouse office in ********, **. Prior to the closing date we received an email on Sept 22 from them, and more specifically, from a paralegal in their office, with instructions on where to wire the money, $367,505.96. Due to issues with the house the closing was postponed; rescheduled for Oct 2 but now in the attorneys *************** On Sept 27 we received another email from the same firm with new instructions for wiring the money. On Sept 29 we arranged with our bank to have the money wired to ****** in anticipation of closing on Oct 2. In communicating with the paralegal *******************, we learned that they did not receive the wire transfer. It was determined that the second email we received from the same ******************* was from a hacker. Someone had breached their security into their system and stole our money. It was their system that was hacked, they admitted to us that this was not the first time this occurred. ****** is now stating that OUR money was stolen, but we feel that it was their money that was stolen since it was their system that was hacked. Due to ****** having prior similar incidents we feel that they were negligent in not having the proper security to avoid these repeated occurrences, wherein the innocent parties, are possibly going to be out the $367K and a house. ****** should have malpractice insurance as well as cyber insurance - their negligence should NOT fall on unsuspecting individuals. They want us to hire *************** after their insurance. We are putting ourselves in writing to you in desperation to request any assistance that you may be able to provide as we feel that ****** was negligent in not taking the proper precautions to protect their computers from being hacked.
