      I had a long standing account with this gym and I haven't even used their service in the last year and half to two years now, especially since I moved from ****** SC to ************* GA back in June of 2024. I was still being charged so I called them to cancel and they advised me that I needed to send in a letter to cancel my membership which is outlandish that my membership cannot be terminated over the phone however I sent a simple and short letter demanding my membership be cancelled as I no longer live in the area to utilize the service. They continued to bill me however and now they have a debt collector calling me for an insane amount of money.

      ***** ****** contacted Workout Anytime via email on 6/24/24. A response was emailed back to him on 6/30/24 stating the cancellation process per the agreement he signed, also attached. The cancellation policy is clearly stated in the agreement and can be processed by signing the cancellation form in person, through certified mail, or through the Workout Anytime App. An email does not cancel the membership. Due to the fact he quit paying his membership dues and didn't follow the cancellation policy as stated in the agreement, the account was automatically canceled for non-payment and the amount owed was turned over to a collection agency. A detailed report of amount owed is also attached. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thank you.

      Better Business Bureau:

      I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. 

      In the business' response they mentioned that canceling in the app was an option but I was not informed in their email response, only in person or certified mail. If this was advised at the time, I could have downloaded the app to cancel this membership. I was not aware there even was an app for this gym. No mention of this in their attached response to my email they provided on 6/30/2024.

      A certified letter was an option listed in the email which was not sent / received from the member. Again, the cancellation policy is clearly stated in the agreement (the app cancellation option was not available at the time this member signed the agreement but became available later in 2024). Even though the cancellation policy was not followed as stated in the agreement, I have removed the entire balance owed as a courtesy. This should resolve the complaint.

      I was not the primary membership holder as I had signed up with a family member and a friend, the family member is the primary account holder (1) and I (2) am the secondary member underneath them, and there is another person (3) that is also underneath person one. Person 1 and 2 cancelled their membership in person in June 2022, but I received emails later stating that I (2) have a missed payment due to this gym, and when trying to contact them to explain that we had went in person and paid the debt in person that day, I get no replies to any emails. I have proof my card was not on this account at all and my signature was not on there to be charged, as the credit card is NOT IN MY NAME. I have been sent to collections over a debt that I don't believe is valid as it is not in my name, and we CANCELLED! Person 3 had no issue whatsoever cancelling, so why am I being handed these charges out of the blue? I am not the primary account holder and never have been, and I have not received proof that this debt is mine or any attempt to clear this up, just constant phone calls and emails and no actual help. This is ridiculous and unfair, communication is horrible.

      I tried to cancel my membership in May 2022 and was told I might be charged for June but then it would be cancelled. I was emailed a document that verified my membership was cancelled. When I still continued to be charged in July 2022, I went back to the gym to complain. They told me they would cancel my membership and refund the July charge. I was never refunded the July charge and was charged again in August 2022. I need my membership to be cancelled and I need a two month refund.
