On approximately 4 Apr 2024 I requested services from Aviv for a faulty refrigerator and dryer in a property owned by myself. The dryer timer switch was not moving and the dryer was not heating. A technician provided by Aviv stated that "the dryer was heating properly but that it had a time issue." The quote to replace the timer element was $385. The current dryer was only one and a half years old. I told him that I could buy a new for $500, therefore it did not make sense to spend $385 on a timer switch. I purchased a new dryer from Lowes for $500 and paid to have the other one taken away. After a week, the tenant occupying the property complained that the new dryer was having the exact same problem. The tenant decided to select a company of her choice and pay to have the new dryer inspected. The new company was Dryer Vent Pros. They diagnosed the issue as a clogged dryer vent. Once the dryer vent was unclogged the new dryer began to function properly. Due to the technician's misdiagnosis I purchased a new dryer and paid to have the other one sent away. Clearly the new dryer did not need a new timer due to a faulty part and clearing the vent resolved the issue. I contacted Aviv Services to see if we could work out a reasonable reimbursement for the misdiagnosis. They only offered a return of the service fee of $50. This is completely unsatisfactory. Their technicians misdiagnosis cost me approximately $600 and I'd hoped they would reconsider their offer.

We have refunded Mr. W**** $50 and will refund and additional $125. As we explained to him, being that he declined the repair needed, there is nothing for us to warranty. The timer would be why the unit was not advancing to complete the cycles.

I am neither “accepting nor rejecting” the response.  I appreciate Aviv Service offering a refund of the full service call. However, I do not accept the diagnosis which they use to support their position. There is too much of a coincidence that a brand new dryer would have the exact same issue.  The timer on the new dryer was also not moving. Therefore, I’m sure the Aviv technician would once again diagnose the new dryer as having a broken timer as well. Once again, it turns out that the dryer vent was just clogged.  My tenant searched the issue on the internet and multiple articles pointed her in the direction of hiring a Vent company to properly diagnose and fix the issue.   Either way I’m still out approximately $550 for the cost of an unnecessarily new dryer.

Once again I appreciate Aviv’s step in the right direction.

    Sincerely,
    Jason W****
