THIS IS ACTUALLY A NEGATIVE 5 STAR
I leased an apartment for my 18 year old daughter in 2022, before she had her walk thru at the end of the lease, I received a delinquency notice for charges they added to my daughter's account "6" days before. Common area is the responsibility of all three students and each student is charged for whatever they want to charge at the end of the lease. My daughter was charged $200.00 for a bar chair that was never in the apartment (Retreat cost for bar chair would be $600??),$350 for a couch (Retreat cost $1,050??) The couch was lined with faux leather which was peeling off when they received apartment but since all the furniture was old, they didn't think anything about it. $200 for a gate opener that my daughter never received because even though on their website they claim to be a gated community, the gate has never work so my daughter never picked it up. The Retreat seems to be well aware that the only recourse students have is to hire an attorney and we all know how expensive this could be, so The Retreat doesn't care to scam students. It would be nice if a group of victims from this scam could come together and hire an attorney. These are inexperienced college students that don't expect deceitful behavior from The Retreat and didn't take precautions and are now being taken advantage by a company that on their website boasts of a safe environment. The only response I received from The Retreat was: "Do you have any pictures?" Of course the students didn't realize they had to take pictures when they moved in. Who would do that if you think you are entering into a lease with a respectable organization? Obviously The Retreat is not a respectable organization. Additional charges were added and incidents occurred showing the unsafe environment at The Retreat, I just don't have enough room to list all of them.

The Retreat is the biggest scam for college students in Columbia. Not only is resident health and safety not taken into account, they completely overcharge every resident upon moveout. While a resident, my truck's window was smashed in. When I went to the office voicing the complaint and following the police officers instructions, they said the cameras and gates don't work and they couldn't show me the footage even if they did. After my lease ended, I was charged for a complete clean of my bedroom, bathroom, and common area after my family and I spent a whole day cleaning the apartment. I wouldn't recommend anyone to even consider living at the Retreat.
