For two years my family and I have been going through a custom home construction process which still is not complete to our satisfaction. We have had numerous issues and disagreements with the builder throughout this process to include; improper placement of the foundation, material selections by the builder, structural concerns, appliance & lighting restrictions, as well as unverified budget overages. Additionally, I have had three independent home inspections in which all three found similar (in quantities & concerns) in which the builder did very little to address. My family and I are now told that our house is ready for closing. However, due to the bare minimum of the budget allotted to landscaping, concrete, etc as well as other unaddressed concerns, this house is not move-in ready. Supporting documentation available upon request.

    Business Response

Chase Builders of Columbia, Inc. has been building custom homes for 24 years (A little over 400 of them).  While we appreciate the effort on your part to resolve this complaint we abundantly disagree with their complaint and/or issues.  We will be glad to send you a copy of the building contract, change orders, email and text messages and pictures of their house.   We have retained legal counsel to protect ourselves and our outstanding reputation.  Be very careful as there is always two sides of a story.  We can’t wait for the actual facts to surface.  The owner and their real estate agent were present and approved placement of the foundation.  During the framing process, she contacted Richland County Building Official to inspect the framing and he said it was a very well built house. She also had another builder/engineer to inspect and he told her the same thing.  This home had multiple inspections with Richland County to comply with applicable building codes. They have gone over their allowances and we have never received any payment for their overages.  We have all approvals on overages documented on texts and emails. As far as it taking two years to build, we could never get decisions on granite, plumbing, etc.  We waited 3 months for the granite to be selected. As far as lighting and appliance restrictions, they had allowances and chose to go over the allowances. Unfortunately when building a house, you can not choose whatever you want to stay in the budget.  Mrs. M**** has complained about every step in the building process, she also put a halt to the building of the home which delayed us another 3 or 4 months.  We took the landscape off and did not screen in the back porch and gave them credit on their overages which they still owe $13,000 and we are owed an additional $143,000 for the final draw on the house.  All items on the residential home inspection has been addressed.  There was also an Engineered Inspection which was way overboard and not residential building codes.
