Disappointing Experience at North Hills Automotive
I’ve been a loyal customer of North Hills Automotive. This car, for over 7+ years, has been serviced exclusively through them, but after today’s experience, I won’t be returning.
This morning, I went in because I noticed a hose from my radiator was leaking. I asked them to replace it and also get a quote for shocks and struts, which I planned on replacing soon. After about an hour, I received a quote for around $500 to replace the hose and $2000 for the shocks and struts. Additionally, they informed me that the lower radiator was also leaking and would need replacement, which would cost an extra $1200, bringing the total to almost $4000.
However, I was taken aback when I found out that the part to replace the hose was listed at $150 with $170 for labor, but when I looked it up from the original manufacturer, it was only $109. They also added a $100 diagnostic fee. When I questioned the pricing, I asked for the diagnostic fee to be waived, since I had already determined the hose was the issue, and for some help on the price of the part. They offered a small $40 discount on the diagnostic fee but made no effort to adjust the part price, even though I could get it for much cheaper elsewhere.
When I went to pick up my car, they still insisted on charging me the diagnostic fee, despite the fact that I had never asked them to run it. Rob (the owners son) said it was “policy,” which felt frustratingly rigid. I didn’t want to argue over $60, so I paid and told them I would not be returning.
I’ve always trusted them with my car, but this experience left me feeling taken advantage of. The questions I have for business like this are: What does it take to become a loyal customer in today’s business world? Is it really worth $60 to lose a customer for life? I expected better customer service and transparency, especially after all the money I’ve spent with them. Very disappointed.

Bad Policy to charge for Diagnostic check even when you don’t buy the extras.
I am use to having auto shops look for extra items to sell me when they get my vehicle in but to charge $60 when you don’t take the extras seems wrong
Even worse they changed a safety switch on the Transmission and I found the AT fluid low as soon as I got home.
