I paid Carolina Machine Engines $7,400 on **** ** 2023 for a rebuilt engine. Despite repeated promises going back 8 months that they were "just a couple of weeks away from shipping" the engine I have still not received anything. I called today - *****24 - and spoke with Mike and told him I wanted a refund. He said ok but that he did not have the money to pay me back. Sounds similar to the lies they told me about the completion date of the engine. A review of ****** *** **** reviews reveal a pattern of similar behavior with other customers.

Had an engine built March of 23 , it wasn’t a good motor, Brand knew it had issues (low oil pressure) Swapped that engine for another which cost me more money in April of 23, keep in mind I’m having to install and remove these engines out of a vehicle for free. Mike the owner stated when they found out what happened with the first motor they would provide me with some type of labor compensation, after weeks going by and never hearing from Mike I emailed and asked had he found the issue with the original motor and he replied “everything was fine with the motor” which isn’t the case. I asked Mike why would he think I’d intentionally replace a good motor because it’s a substantial amount of work and he never replied, December of 23 the second motor broke a piston in the number 2 cylinder due to poor machine work. Verified by two machine shops. Every time I’ve tired to speak with Mike S*** (the owner) about issues he blames everybody except there company and we get no where . So now 1 year later and 2 motors I still don’t have a good functioning engine .

Order rebuilt engine on 12/11/2023 and there was a $495.00 core charge, refundable when they received and accept the core exchange. Paper works says core refunds take usually 10 to 21 business days. Shipped the core back and tracking showed CME received engine on 12/21/2023. No refund by 02/01/2024 called CME. Was told couldn't find any thing and would get back to me. Called again 02/07/2024 and was told the core was approve and a refund order was issued. Contacted again by email on 03/02/2024. Received a reply they had found my work order and sent me a copy of that work order. Sent email again on 04/14/2024 and have not received any reply as 04/20/2024, As of today I have not been given any reason why I have not received my refund and I was charged $189.00 to ship them my engine for core refund.

in early November I spoke with "Tony" at CME. He was very friendly and seemed excited to help me with my son's motor rebuild project. Tony had told me that it would take 16 weeks to build a motor if I wanted it to be "Dyno'd" (which means broken in). We both agreed that we would not wait for the Dyno, and he said "the guys can probably turn it around in 4-6 weeks". Since 11/9 when they received the shipped motor (core) from me I have no real understanding of when the motor will be ready. I called a few times for Tony and his reply is "You need to talk to Mike". And the last time he hung up on when I told him I'm very confused. I've reached out to Mike several times via email, unfortunately his emails are vague in response.. "Its not ready yet".. I feel as if they might have taken my money and not worked on this since.

Sorry that I may not have been clear, but i have tried to inform our valued customers that the supply chain issues are still a problem with our vendors. We have his engine machined and ready for assembly as soon as the parts arrive. Sorry for the delays. We are doing all we can to rectify the problem. Thanks.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The original agreement I had with CME was that I would send my motor to their shop, they would rebuild it in 4-6 weeks and send it back to me. I would then be responsible for breaking it in. If I wanted them to ‘dyno’ the motor, they would keep it for 14 weeks and charge me more money. We agreed that I would break it in and it would be returned in 4-6 weeks after they received it. I sent them the motor in November and still have not received it.

I’ve sent numerous emails since November 2023 asking for updates (Jan 18, Feb 7, Feb 15, Feb 21, Mar 1, Mar, 2, March 18, March 19 – asked for refund on this day, Apr 15, Apr 19, Apr 25) and I never received any type of informative update. Typical response was “we’re working on it”. I’ve asked numerous times for timelines, progress.. Anything that would help me understand where they were with the process.

I was hung up on when I asked Tony about the motor (he also refused to provide any update by saying “You need to talk to Mike, I can’t provide an update”

After my lase correspondence they replied saying that they were charging me for work already completed and they were sending my motor. This was almost a month ago, and I have not received anything from them. I sent them an email stating that they are holding my property and not returning it, which is illegal.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *****

I called to have the engine out of my 1976 ******** rebuilt . They gave me a price . We agreed and i gave a 2000.00 dollar deposit . They sent a shipping company to pick up my engine " 1979 first generation ***** *** block with a left side dipstick and 2 piece rear main seal. The engine was ****** meaning it had never been rebuilt. 4 months later i got a call my engine was ready . I paid the balance of 1600.00 for a total of 3600.00 . They sent me a engine that is a **** ***** block from a truck right hand dipstick and a 1 piece rear main seal. The parts from my block i sent " oil pan , gasket, " will not work with this. Newer less desirable engine block. It also takes from the value of my ******** as well as originality. I called and spoke with an office manager and he said he would find out why my block was not built and sent back to me . Also why i was not called and told of the switch and change to the agreement . He said he would email a response . I never got an email or a call back. I was planning to do more business with this shop on my other car . I was hoping this was just a mistake and they would call and say someone made a mistake and they will atleast try to make things right.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/09/14) */ Mr. ****** is mistaken. He did indeed receive his same engine back that he sent for rebuild. I have sent him pictures to prove it. I am expecting an apology.
