3 years no problems until my multiple sclerosis (MS) got worse and I needed to use a mobility scooter. I had my RV there and I could not take my scooter near the outside shower or pool. I had to go home to take my showers unless my husband was with me to bring me my stuff. I cant walk & hold items that easily. The hot tub was on opposite side of club entrance. They insisted the mobility scooter was the same as golf cart &could only be parked by the golf clubs. Then said I could bring it into the building as long as I sat in it all the time and said if I could walk around yesterday why do I need it today. I tried to explain MS then they stated they were a private club Americans Disability Act exempted them. I asked the following organizations for help. www.able-sc.org www.adasoutheast.org Both advised the club was private business per ADA not a club and private businesses are not exempt. This club does not comply with Title III of the ADA Act because the members do not control any club operations other that a social council that the owners have final say No selectivity of the membership process that I had. The big one is the facilities are open to the general public. They advertise with a note stating day fees must be paid if you are not a member. Whether the club was created specifically to avoid compliance with civil rights laws: I do not know other then if you complain you're gone After I brought this, they said fine on my scooter use but 2 months later refused to renew my membership. Refused to tell me exactly what my bad behavior was other than I had to keep my hands to myself? Said guests and members complained about me all year. I cant stand for more than about one song length, I mainly sat on a chair and people came over to me to socialize. I find this was retaliation. Very sad the people other than owners and managers were great people & the only place like this is over 3 hours for me.
