I purchased an author table for a conference that was scheduled for Sept 2020. It was postponed until September 2021 because of Covid. They announced the venue was going to be postponed again because of Covid restrictions and rescheduled the event for September 2022. Eventually, the event was cancelled. The business has stopped returning messages, blocked their FB page (PennedCon Author Group) from posts, messages, or comments. I have requested a refund via an online form and have never received a response. It’s getting close to a year ago that I requested a refund.

In 2019 I paid $415 for a table at the event Penned Con 2020. In 2020, the event was postponed due to the pandemic. In 2021, the event was postponed again due to the pandemic. In 2022, the event was postponed a third time due to the hotel where the event was going to take place flooding approximately 6 months before the event. Many of the authors and attendees asked for refunds at that point, and I have heard that they did receive them. Some of us were willing to give Penned Con the benefit of the doubt and let them hold our money to attend the event in 2023. Now, the event has been cancelled entirely, but the company is refusing to issue any more refunds for the event, with the organizers claiming that they are waiting to get refunded from PayPal and Eventbrite before they issue anymore refunds (and that they have been waiting for their refunds since last year). I have contacted the organizers multiple times to tell them that they need to issue refunds ASAP, regardless of whether or not they get their own money back from PayPal and Eventbrite. Unfortunately, the window has long since passed to get either PayPal or Eventbrite to force a refund because the tickets were originally purchased in 2019. Additionally, the organizers have turned off all communication channels on the Facebook pages and are refusing to answer emails and have blocked me and others on Facebook. Red Coat PR is owned by Rick and Amy Miles. Neither their business pages (pennedcon.com, redcoatpr.wordpress.com) nor their emails list their mailing address. The address that I entered was found on a third-party site (Buzzfile), so I am not entirely sure of its accuracy. The email address for the Penned Con event is [email protected]. I have created a Facebook group with 26 other people still awaiting refunds. We want to send them an official letter demanding our refunds, otherwise we will take legal action, but they have shut down all communications.
