  I had the ABSOLUTE BEST experience with Alicia, and Marvel Hsir and Makeup. My sister also used her for her wedding party hair and makeup and loved EVERYTHING ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE, which is why I contacted her. She went ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR ME AND ALL OF MY BRIDAL PARTY!!! She was there anytime I needed her. She made sure that she was completely transparent and walked me through the entire process, as well as my mother who can be a bit much!!!! I just love her and will use her anytime that I have hair and makeup needs….
  
  She also provided me with an extremely well stocked touch up kit that contained so much more than I needed for a kit. She continues to blow me away by her generous heart!!!!

  I was a 2023 bride and hired Alicia Cates owner of Marvel Hair and Makeup to do my make up for my wedding on 11/11/23. I paid in full and in advance $1489.88. She no showed for my bridals on 10/18 which was scheduled in advance. Her reasoning for this was she had it in her calendar as 11/18 and her son was sick. I last minute had to find a makeup artist because my bridal portraits were the same day, which she knew about. She told me she was sorry and “she knew my wedding date was 11/4”. My actual wedding date was 11/11??? Due to the concerns I had about this I decided to use a different make up artist on my wedding day. Alicia cates told me she would refund me twice and never did before finally saying I just “needed to make a claim with my credit card company” she is unprofessional and unreliable. My advice is to not use her! She’s apparently known to do this which I didn’t know until it was too late. Warn your friends!

  I wanted to believe that Alicia was a reputable, trustworthy MUA. She appears to have had many clients and an extensive portfolio. While I do not doubt her makeup abilities or the quality of her services, there is inconsistency in the way that she runs her business and communicates with clients. I originally booked her for a fashion show runway look. On the day of the show, I arrived to the venue empty-handed with no makeup or application tools of my own because I thought I had prepared for it by booking her. She wanted the full amount upfront before completing any services, and also requested that I pay through her husband’s Venmo account which she forgot the phone number had changed a day before. Suspicious? Maybe I should have backed out then, but alas I continued (my bad).
  
  The day of the event, as I am parking my car, she sends me a long message saying that she is no longer coming due to a family emergency. It seemed like a valid excuse at the time. I was told that I would receive my refund the next day. I checked my Venmo and saw nothing. She said there was a technical problem with my account. I then sent a refund request which she cancelled. Then she messaged me saying “ok i just sent it. It worked.” But of course, that was a lie.
  
  Before jumping to any conclusions, I messaged people we mutually followed to see if she had any merit with past clients or if there were similar stories of flakiness. Most people I messaged hadn’t worked with her, but from the outside thought she appeared to be a safe choice. Then someone told me that she had flaked on many shoots so she never got the chance to work with her, but never paid anything up front. It wasn’t until I did further research on BBB that my suspicions were confirmed that she should not be trusted.
  
  It is disappointing that someone would operate a business this way. It was my first time booking a makeup artist, but I have learned that I now require a contract before booking.
