EMPWR Solar agreed to reimburse me for $1,800 (which I paid), which was the cost of a contractor installed insulated exterior "closet" to enclose the Generac PowerCell Battery pack. EMPWR, via Jarod A*** (EMPWR project manager) stated that Generac had agreed to the $1,800 cost of the closet and asked me to submit the contractor invoice for the installation along with pictures of the completed closet, which I emailed to him on December 13, 2023. He stated that it should take about 6-8 weeks for the reimbursement, and that Amanda Costa (EMPWR accounting) would be handling said reimbursement. In February of 2024, having heard nothing regarding this reimbursement, I emailed Amanda asking where was my $1,800 reimbursement. She stated that Generac had misplaced the invoice because of the holidays, but they would now be working on it. On March 26, 2024, I received an email from Amanda stating that they had received the reimbursement from Generac, and that they would be mailing me a check for $1,800 by the end of that week. After several weeks passed, I contacted Amanda to let her know that I had not received the reimbursement. She emailed me back stating that she was turning over this issue to Britany D****, VP of Development for EMPWR. Ms. D**** emailed me explaining that the reimbursement from Generac was in the form of solar storage batteries, which was a "problem" because EMPWR no longer was a sales rep for Generac. Since that time, this reimbursement has been a "football" passing back and forth from EMPWR to Generac. There is a case number for this issue with Generac, and a lady named Ashley Loppnow is my contact at Generac. She informed me that Generac NEVER pays $$ for reimbursements, but that Generac had offered batteries at a wholesale value greater than the $1,800 to EMPWR and EMPWR accepted this offer, via internal emails between the two. I have a detailed email trail between myself, EMPWR and Generac. No reimbursement has been sent.

      Hello Mr. ********,

Firstly, I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the dispute, and I sincerely regret the position this has put you in. I am pleased to provide a positive update as of this afternoon. Generac Power Systems has agreed to issue the promised check for $1,800.00. I am awaiting details on when you will receive the remittance and will provide you with that update as soon as possible. Typically, we have seen these types of remittances processed within 2-4 weeks.
I will promptly provide you with updates as I receive them.

      Thank you,

I paid for a service that has not been rendered. They continue to slow roll the remedy for issue began in October of 2023. 20 plus emails, numerous phone calls and text messages. Solution offered was they need to hardwire the inverter they installed since it has failed to send SREC production to SREC Trade so they can be sold at market price and money that will go to my account. In late April they sent a crew to try to add a wifi extender instead of the initial intent to hard wire the inverter to the modem. The extender did not work. I was told on May 7 that they would be reaching out to me to set a date to hardwire the inverter to the modem. It is June 4th. Still no word. I've already paid for this service. But very typical of this company, long on words short on follow through. This discussion has been going on close to 7 months with no resolution. I'm losing money because I cannot sell to SREC trade company because of the faulty inverter that they installed. I spent $50,000 on solar panels with the idea that I could sell energy back to the power company and trade it for money to help offset the cost. It was a selling point. But have not been able to trade since October of 2023 because inverter has malfunctioned. And EMPWR has been made aware of this. But to no avail. I have the chain of emails if you need them. I've pleaded with them to fix this. But my value as a customer is insignificant even though I've paid for the service. Ultimately it is their responsibility since they hired a third party to correct a problem that has not been fixed. They owe me the money I paid to fix their service and the money I'm losing due to this situation. Please help.

We re in receipt of this complaint and wanted to address this in this forum. We have been communicating with the customer outside of the BBB forum. We are sorry for the troubles you have experience with the monitoring of the system. After speaking with the customer last week, we agreed to have an answer on a service date by EOB today. After looking into the actual issue, this is not an issue with the system production as the system has producing since the system was installed. This is a defect with the communication equipment that the manufacturer has to replace and is not covered under the workmanship warranty. The replacement equipment has been ordered and has shipped to the customer. The only thing left is to schedule the service through our third party that handles these types of service calls. I believe that we are shooting  for the week of the 17th.

In November of 2023 we had our roof replaced at the same time we also had solar panels installed. We took out a loan to finance both. In the contract with solar company they were suppose to pay the roofers. We were first told that we would receive the money directly to lay the roofers we wre later told that tgeu would pay roofers directly. To this day they have only paid 1,000 of a 15 000 job to the roofers. We keep getting g the run around it was later brought to our attention the owner of the co.psny robby edge used our loan to pay offers own de ts instead of paying the roofers like what was agreed upon. This is fraud and we want our job to be paid for.

The salesman promised a $1000 rebate and that it could take up to 6 months after installation to receive it. I’ve called month after month inquiring about my rebate and I’m told every month “it’s processing”. The lenders are paying empwr, their employees are paid, their utilities are paid but not the guy who just went $45,000 in debt for this solar system. We are in month number 11 since installation and still no rebate check. I also get told over the phone that customer service will talk to their manager and call me back with more info. That also never happens. I pay my debts. I wish you guys would to.

      ******* ***,

I am sorry to hear that the rep promised you a $1,000.00 rebate. This is not typical but I have seen this happen before. Normally when a rep offers something like this they are doing so out of their commission and the company has no knowledge of this offer. Unfortunately, we only cover anything that is in writing and in our agreement with you.

I would suggest calling the rep to request this rebate directly. If you have this in writing from the rep, please reach out to me directly with the documentation and the rep's name and we will do anything in our power to put pressure on the rep to get you taken care of.

The company has yet to install my generator which was paid for over two years ago and I have continuously requested either for the generator to be installed or for them to refund the amount of $13000 of the $48,950 solar contract. They keep dragging this out with unfulfilled, eventually fraudulent promises and then ghosting as if they have no responsibility to fulfill the contract.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/09/2024

      Ms. ******** *******,

We have spoke with you many times concerning this issue. At the time the generator was sold as part of the project, you didn't have any full supply in place to install and connect the generator to. We explained to you that this was not part of the sale and you would be responsible for having this taken care of so the site was generator ready. The installation of the fuel source is handled through a gas contractor and is outside of our scope of work as it relates to the equipment we sold you. We also offered to provide a refund for the generator less the fees which would be equal to around $10,000. You told us that you didn't want the refund a number of times because it didn't cover the cost of the fuel source. That amount would have covered the equipment and the installation of the generator.

To date, we have no record that you have installed the fuel source as it was not part of our agreement nor is it listed on the contract between us. We cant install the generator without the fuel source as we have to pull permits for the generator install and cant leave it uninspected which requires hook up to the fuel source and testing for the inspector.

Please let us know if you have this installed and/or would like us to issue the refund for the value less the fees.

We were supposed to receive a whole home backup solar generator system in January 2023 it was supposed to go on line in April 2023 . It has never worked even after two “technician “ visits. This company has blown us off for months and has not fixed a single problem . This company is a scam company that sells a lie they have lied from day one until day now and I won’t waste any more time believing that will change. The description Whole Home Backup Solar Generator System is easily self explanatory to even the most novice consumers so it’s absolutely amazing how Empwr/Palmetto/Drake solar solutions have no idea what it means! They start off by acting as if they truly care and want to fix the problem and then they drag you along blow you off become rude and condescending and keep sending you to the bottom of their pathetic to do list. They have told us they will address the problem fix the problem get us money for the problem and they do nothing. I have months of text messages between myself and their employees promising all manner of lies. They claim that they hit the jackpot when they were privileged enough to partner with Drake Solar and how awesome that would be for Generac battery system owners like us, well ole Drake himself showed up (in November!) to finally FIX the problem, fix lasted 10 days and the lack of BACKUP GENERATOR was NEVER addressed as per usual at Empwr. There’s so much more to the story but that’s for others to hear , just know that if they answer this they lie they’re already mad at me for going to the useless consumer affairs of sc about them and if they have a problem with anything I have written here, I don’t lie, they know where I am and hey maybe I’ll get a call but I highly doubt it

      Good Afternoon

We have read your complaint and wanted to respond to this for the record. We understand your frustration and empathize with the situation. This system has been producing energy since it was first turned on. I can see that you have had some issues with the ATS and battery hardware. The equipment issues you have had are related to Generac and Generac as the manufacturer has to handle the warranty claims associated with these issues.

I see that we did have t bump your service and apologize for that but we had undergone some turnover within our service department. Based on our records, we completed a service for you as recently as 11/1/2023 and all systems seemed to be working correctly.

You purchased a solar electric system with Battery Back-up. This is a system connected to the utility grid that produces power with the panels and stores excess energy in the back-up battery. The description "home back-up" doesn't mean that you will not have to be connected to the grid. In fact, in SC, its unlawful to not connect to the utility grid when available at your location. We never stated that your system was an "Off Grid" system or a "'but I am sorry you misunderstood that.

We have documented communication with you for each issue you have had and are working with Generac and DSS to get your system serviced as quickly as possible. Your current "Case #: 00297329" was issued by Generac on 12-20-2024 and it has been assigned t a service dealer for scheduling.

I am rejecting this response because: I know about the appointment because I made it so thanks for nothing. I’ll take one more time to let people who come to the BBB know that if they ever decide to go solar to avoid you at all costs. For the record, you were notified in June of 23 about our problems and while you came out to fix the five panels that never worked and changed the inverter motherboard that was inadequate you never dealt with the battery that we told you about from the beginning. You notifying us about our appointment in this manner rather than contacting us directly is a direct reflection on the kind of company you are. I hope that anyone looking to go solar reads this entire exchange and saves themselves from having to deal with people like you. So as usual thanks for the note telling us what we already know. Have a nice day

      Mr. *********,

We have been in contact with you outside of this forum. We have worked with the manufacturer of the equipment that was installed on your project to remedy the issues you have had to date. Its very unfortunate that your system has had issues but these issues fall under the manufacturer warranty. The issues you have had have not been due to workmanship nor were a product of the installation.

I know this is not what you want to hear and I know that your upset about having to wait for service but this is the process we have to follow to ensure your warranties remain intact and any faulty equipment can be replaced by the manufacturer.

In September of 2023 I had solar panels installed by Palmetto Direct (formerly known as EMPWR Solar). I was guaranteed by their sales rep that I would no longer rely on the electric grid and these solar panels would supply plenty of electricity for our home. After we had the system inspected and turned on, we found that one of panels was bad. The panels came with a 25 year warranty but Palmetto has been giving nothing but excuses on why they can't replace the panel even though they have been given approval by the manufacturer of the system, Enphase. Also, we have been paying an electric bill along with the solar panels which we were told that we would not ever do. Palmetto has admitted in emails that the malfunctioning panel is definitely not producing enough electricity as compared to the others and could be the cause of this but they are still not replacing the panel. This has been for three months now.

Thank you for providing your feedback and letting us know about this issue.

While Palmetto has agreed to service assets installed by EMPWR, it is solely their responsibility to engage and support customers with post-installation service needs. Palmetto acts as a contractor performing the work but is not a responsible party. With that being said, we have shared your feedback with our contact at EMPWR to ensure your service needs are actioned.

I am rejecting this response because:

The service still has not been completed and I will reject these replies until they are.  There was a panel that needs to be replaced and also there are current transducers that need to be installed for monitoring power consumption.  Also, per my discussion with Jason Leffler, there was discussion of a reimbursement for my having to pay an electric bill on top of making solar payments which was told to me by the sales rep that we would never have to do.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/19/2024

      Good day Mr. ***** ********,

We have been in communication with you concerning the process for receiving RMA's with your system directly from the manufacturers. The first action we took was to secure a RMA with Enphase which we got and came out and replaced the microinverter. After its replacement, we determined that a single panel in your system is the actual issue. After speaking with QCell, they have suggested that this issue is caused by a known bypass diode issue. QCell doesn't offer an advance replacement like Enphase. At this time, we are working to schedule another onsite visit to get the necessary documentation needed by QCell to start the RMA process but we plan to install a new panel on us so you aren't without the panel while we wait for QCell to send the replacement.

To date, this single panel has produced roughly 50% of the production of the other panels that make up the system. This equates to a total of approximately 83 kWh which based on your current utility rates have a value of $9.15. We are happy to send you a check out for this loss in system production pending the manufacturer replacement.

I want to note is that the system is functioning and the only thing that there is an issue with is a single panel which is producing 50% of the expected production. Again, we can expedite the reimbursement for $9.15 for you to cover your loss.

The original installation was the first week of February 2022 but the system was not fully online and feeding to the grid until July due to multiple parts not working that required RMA's that took months. Scheduling and communication was always an issue and it probably took a dozen tech visits to get the system functioning. Since it took so long for it to fully work, they had advised they were going to reimburse me for my solar lease payment. I received the first few but then payments stopped despite the system not being able to feed back into the grid yet. I was told I'd be issued gift cards as reimbursements but have not received those either. The main issue continues to be that the system does not work as advertised (1/2 the panels do not work if we lose grid power) and I cannot even get a email or phone call from them about how to fix this. The restructuring unde the Palnetto name has not improved anything. Currently one of our inverters is not communicating and I called to schedule a tech but have not heard back over a week later. It took constant hounding on my part since day 1 and I'm sick of this. They have the worst customer service I've ever experienced and cannot get them to seriously address any of our issues. It feels like they took my money and have no interest in serving their customer.

In 2020, we contracted with Empwr Solar to install solar panels on our roof. The salesman assured us the panels did not require direct sunlight to function. That turned out not to be the case and I initially had many conversations and text messages with Mr. E***. He blamed all manner of things on a delay of a resolution such as lawyers were reviewing or the company was suing the salesman. He finally agreed to a stopgap measure whereby Empwr would send me a check for my monthly payment to the credit company. That did happen, though not consistently, until Empwr became Palmetto Direct. At that point checks ceased to arrive and my attempt to text Mr. E*** received no response. I'm frustrated and want some sort of final resolution to this matter. Since the panels delivered only about 2/3 of the promised savings, I would consider 1/3 of the price to be appropriate compensation. Maybe attention from BBB will spark a response.

I would need to look at the production levels the system produced over the last 12 months and compare them to what was originally proposed to you. Your system would have included a production guarantee so your covered for a lack of production if present.

I will reach out to you directly via email today to get the required documentation from you to do a production analysis.

I am sorry for the delay in responding to this complaint and I look forward to working with you on a solution that will meet your satisfaction.

I am contacting you in desperation because I am fighting to keep my parents’ home. My father was a World War II veteran and my mother used to clean homes right here in Winston Salem, NC. They worked hard to provide a home for our family and my parents entrusted me to oversee the family home.
I invested in Solar energy for my home because my brother Saladine at the time in training with the company, formerly known as Empwr Solar. He said I could save money using solar energy than using electric energy.
I financed the solar panels through a credit union called Allin One Credit Union in the amount of $36000.The new meter was added in June of 2021. The amount was around fifteen dollars each month. Then **** Energy sent a bill stating it would increase to $16.08 for September to pay in October 2022. I decided to proceed in paying October, November and December’s bill so I would not have to worry about paying another energy bill until January of 2023. However, the money I paid three months ahead reflected on my bank statement, but not on my **** Energy account. I waited to see if any payments would be drafted out from the bills of November and December from the credit with my **** Energy account, but they never did.
In January of 2023 I finally spoke to someone at **** Energy in the net metering department who said they would be able to fix it. That associate fixed it all right and the result of her fixing the issues was receiving four bills in the same month in March of 2023. The first one for $133.42, the second for $372.53, the third for $781.81 and the fourth bill for $1085.30. **** Energy said if the Energy bill was not paid by May of 2023 my lights would be shut off. Empowr Solar sends out someone to add a line to my router so I could track my usage on an app on June 14th 2023. The man cut off my aluminum siding and damaged the entire side then drilled inside my home at the front to force a cord through to connect to the router inside. It is ruined.

      Mr. ******* **,

I wanted to reach out to you after seeing your post on BBB. The power bill issue is noting that we have any control over and this is something that I would take up with **** Energy. I looked at your system and everything is performing to the expectations. I am not sure why your filing a complaint against us for your **** bill.

I looked in our communications log and see that you stated that you were unhappy with the way the cable was run to connect your system to the internet back on 8/18/2023. We reached out out the same day to schedule a site visit to address your concerns and you responded stating not to come out to your property.

      See email you sent below:

      "Good afternoon

Do not come on my property.  I have a no trespass sign in the front which the guy ignored anyway because he could not read it.

He could not understand anything I said to him; unfortunately, I understood later he was incapable of comprehending anything I told him to do.

My property has been destroyed enough.

      Thank you"

Since then, we have reached out by call and/or email on 8/18/2023and again on 8/23/2023 to try to address this for you but you have not responded.

We are happy to address your concern but need to be able to communicate with you to schedule a site visit.
