We wanted to enjoy better vacations with our family and provide a means by which our two daughters could continue to enjoy vacations with their families in the future. We were told that a timeshare through Schooner would be a great investment and an excellent vehicle to accomplish that goal. We were also told that it could be sold or rented out when we did not use it. Gifts were always offered to attend sales meetings to show facility upgrades, but it always ended up as opportunities to sell you on buying more timeshare interest. The meetings were always long with very clever sales tactics deployed which were geared for you to buy today. We have determined over the years that it was the biggest mistake of our lives and we have lived to regret it many times over. We purchased time slots in the 'High Red' weeks to ensure availability. Well, that was the complete opposite of what we experienced. We've had a terrible experience trying to book any vacations. What good is the timeshare when it has such limited availability? They were over promised, oversold, and under delivered. We were never told it would be very difficult or nearly impossible to cancel the contract if we had future events happen to us that would alter our plans and intended use of the timeshare. My wife and I have both suffered from strokes and heart attacks, as recently as 2022. My wife also had a stroke in May of this year. As you can imagine, this has made it even more difficult to travel, and the medical costs have an impact on our finances. We cant understand why such a product is sold to the consumer that ties them to a lifetime of debt with no good alternatives to make an exit and regroup. It should be illegal to trap people in this situation, even if they lack the ****************** to avoid it.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/27/2023

    Good Afternoon:

The Thomases purchased their timeshare week through a timeshare sales company, not the Schooner II Beach & Racquet Club Association;  the Association is not a sales company.  Our records indicate they reserved a unit in 2010, never showed up, and haven't paid any maintenance fees since their original purchase.

That being said and as the ***** of ********* is sympathetic to the Thomases situation, 2 offers have been made in 2023 to have their week deeded back to the Association.  There are fees related to a deed back.  The ***** of ********* will make one final offer to the Thomases to deed back their week.  If The Thomases pay the related legal fees of $375, the Association WILL take back their week.

They must reach out to ******************** in our ************************* by August 4th to accept the offer.  Her email address is ****************************************.

    Thank you for your time.
