The date of transaction was February 25,2023. The amount paid was $430.00. What we were promised was my daughters wedding dress to be evenly hemmed to slightly touch the floor and not show her shoes. To have the shoulders slightly brought up so that the bodice/breast area would fit properly and the sides of the bodice brought in to help with the fit also. My dress was to also be evenly hemmed to slightly brush the floor where my shoes would not show. What we received on pick up was just the opposite. Both dresses were hemmed horribly uneven. The shoulders on my daughters wedding dress were removed/taken up so much that another seamstress is going to have to add *************** to fix it. This also horribly affected the bodice/breast area making it not fit properly. The owner/ seamstress says she has done nothing wrong and refuses to reimburse the money I provided. I just want my money back so that I can have another seamstress try to salvage our dresses. Please help!

    Dear ***/*****,

On February 23, 2023 my client and her daughter, the bride to be, came on an appointment they made earlier on that week for fitting and alterations. On arrival they were directed to the changing room. When they came out, I introduced myself and I asked both of them to tell me their concerns as usual.I pinned where necessary and at each step the client is asked if they are okay with the pinning. If they are not in agreement or have any concerns, they would let me know. I proceeded to explain that I will be cutting off the excess hem line and I would start with the inner layers also known as the lining. At each stage the client is told and shown the amount it would be shortened by and also the client must confirm before I proceed to cutting further in relations to the wedding dress. After cutting off the excess fabric my client was asked to walk around in the dress and confirm shes okay 100%. She told me she was happy with the length and she was also told that the dress will be hemmed. The mother of the bride also confirmed and said she too was happy with the length.

The mother of the bride also had her dress cut as well and she had to go through the same procedure where she would say how short she wanted the dress and also had to walk around the store to make sure she would not trip on the dress. Again, she gave her approval and paid and signed. She went further to ask me to make matching earrings from the buttons from the dress and I did get her the earrings.

I was surprised to hear that she had a change of heart and had issues with the dresses when she came to fit, she said the hem was too wavy and that the straps were tight.

The client made an appointment for 5 pm the following day March 22, 2023 to see me and to make the adjustments. She came in at about 5:12 pm and I asked both of them to fit the dress but they refused. I insisted that if they do not fit the dress and show me the problems they were having I would not be able to help them. The bride to be, fitted her dress and I asked her to show me where the faults were. Again, she said the hem was wavy. On seeing the hem, I explained to her that its like that because its a circular cut and thats the orientation of it. Moreover, it was the same way it was when she brought it to me, all I did was cut it on her and resew it. As for the shoulder strap I could see that it was separated and pinned by another person. I was surprised and asked her what happened. The bride told me that she took it to another seamstress because I was not there when she came to fit.  The dress had markings and sticky notes all over it. I asked her why she did not wait and come to see me when I was available. She kept saying I was not there. At that point I told her I could not give her back the money because she went and altered the dress somewhere else.

I really did not see any issue with the dresses that she was complaining about, and the wedding dress was not short, looking at it as you can see in the pictures, it is pulling on the floor. The straps did not appear to be tight as you can see how free it looks with her fingers going under it as it lay on her shoulders. I was trying to get an understanding from her as to why she did not have me resolve the issue, but she kept saying I was not there when she came to fit. We called her number and our representative spoke to the mother of the bride on the 18th of March, three days before her fitting to ask if she wanted to come in earlier and she said no, she cannot come in until the scheduled date to fit.  We did all we could do but the clients insisted that all they needed was the money back. They did not want to resolve the situation and as a result I told her I could not give her back the money. Moreover, all the cutting was down while the dress was on the customer while facing the mirror.

I am rejecting this response because:

the dresses are clearly hemmed unevenly. The bottom of a dress should be round and even like a bell or opening of a drinking glass, not wavy with one side of the dress not touching the floor while the other side is dragging the floor. The bodice/breast area of my daughters wedding dress is misplaced because the shoulders were taken up too much. And because so much material was removed from the shoulders, another seamstress is having to add material and lace to try and fix it. The seamstress should have been present for the brides 1st fitting and if she couldnt be she should have called and rescheduled our appointment. Regardless, I would not have let her do anything more to the dresses after seeing the damage she had done. I took the dresses to another seamstress the evening I picked them up from koko beenz to see what would need to be done to repair them. She did not alter the dresses, only pinned them where she would need to repair them. So for her to say she would not give the money back because they were altered, thats just not true. She never had any intention of giving the money back and to make matters worse she screamed at us the entire time we were in the shop trying to provoke a response and recorded us with her phone also. I have never been treated in such a disgusting, disrespectful way. The only way to make this right is for her to give a refund!

    Sincerely,

It still is unbelievable how they both stood in front of a mirror in their stilettos and watch me cut the dress hem, and you said nothing and then come back three weeks later to say it was short. You saw what you were getting you and you said yes.

We did call you three days ahead of time, you said you could not make it. And that you are keeping your scheduled date. Are you saying if I was there you would have allowed me to rectify the situation? What can I say I tried.
My client is obviously very upset and will stop at nothing to get her money back despite the fact we tried our best to rectify the situation. She said I came highly recommended but yet she could not give us a chance to make the adjustments. She said I was very disrespectful to her all because I did not give her the money back, please see attachment where you can hear her being disrespectful.

Her daughter tried hard to tell her that she was okay with the dress but she insisted to have her way. She also told her it was a little close but she was okay with it because when she leaned over her breast would not shift or fall out, but the mom was relentless in getting back the money and refused to have us fix it. We still have not heard from the bride to be, its just **** the mom of the bride.

I have decided to give half of the money back. Its been over a month since the transaction was done, and the staff and bills have been paid in relation to the time and resources spent on this alteration job.

I would be very happy if the Bureau can conclude this matter. I have lost time and resources dealing with this situation, and I do not intend to continue on this path.

To my client Im sorry we could not resolve the issue a little more amicably, but things do happen.

    Have a blessed day folks.

I am rejecting this response because:
This complaint is going no where. Everything she made mention to in her last comment is a lie. She never tried to rectify this situation in any way, shape or form and this is pointless going back and forth. I still have to pay a new seamstress to repair the damage this seamstress created and her charge is more because of all she has to do to fix my daughters wedding dress. Had this seamstress listened to our concerns and been kind when we returned with the dresses I would have compromised on a fee for her time, but we were never shown this courtesy. Her offer of half a refund will not correct all she has done and I do not accept her offer.

    Sincerely,
