AAA Collections held a couple of medical bills for me that I am still working with insurance to pay. I received certified mail from AAA and realized they were likely going to start the small claims process, so I called them, found out my balance, and had a check cut for the medical bills plus some of their fees (while I wait to be reimbursed by insurance). Today, a process server showed up at my house and handed me small claims paperwork from AAA. This was surprising to me because AAA should have already received my payment. I called AAA, spoke with the gal I made arrangements with two weeks ago, and asked her if she had received my payment. She said yes and that they had notified the clerk of courts that the case needed to be dismissed. This gal then told me that because the process server had delivered paperwork (even after the bills had been paid) I would be responsible for additional legal fees. This is negligence on AAA's part and not something that I should be responsible for.Business Response

Dear BBB.
Complaint filed by Mr. ******,
The accounts listed in our office date
back to November of 2022; we started legal work in September 2024, and e-filed
the small claims pleadings to the clerk of courts on October 1, when Mr. ******
contacted our office and paid his account on October 28, the small claims were
already in the clerk's hands, we can hold on the account and see what the
chargers will be from the court house for sending out the small claims
documents. We will review to see if these are charges we can write off.
If Mr. ****** wants to follow up with
our office in a few days, we will discuss the account further.
AAA Collections has thoroughly

I spoke with aaa collections multiple times over the last year and a half in regards to my bill with them. * **** *** **** ** ****** ** *** **** *** *** ** *** *** *** ******* ****** ***** *** ***** ** ***** ******** ** **** ****** *** ******** *** ***** I have had a lot going on and have I attempted multiple times to set up a payment plan I could afford ( we all know times have been hard on everyone the passed few years) they declined every time insisted I paid $** to $*** more then I could afford. And when I paid what I told them I could $*** a month until early next year when I can pay in full they still attempted to put a judgement on me as well as threaten garnishment. Because I cannot afford to be garnished and couldn’t afford the $*** they were demanding (to ensure no garnishment) I was forced to pay the $******* on 2 credit cards that I will now be paying **% interest on. I tried to use my **** ****** card for no interest and they do not accept that. They left me with no choice but to charge in full today to ensure they didn’t garnish me and cause me to be unable to pay my other bills and feed my children. I tried to settle with them multiple times also to pay off sooner and even then they would only offer a couple hundred off with no room for negotiation or understanding to what someone is going through. They also refused to send any documentation of the refusal lot accept a payment plan I could afford.Business Response

Dear BBB.
We have reviewed the complaint filed by Ms. ******** and
would like to share that this account was listed with our office over a year
ago; it is for services provided in January 2021. We have sent several letters
and made numerous calls, with her always hanging up on us. In January of 2023,
she did call our office, saying she would call us back on the first of February
to pay $****. with her HSA card; however, she never returns our calls after
this date.
AAA Collections, Inc is more than willing to assist
consumers in repaying these debts with a monthly payment plan if the plan is
within our matrix. We encourage the consumers if they can't set up an agreeable
payment arrangement in-house, we are more willing to accept any payment amount
they take upon themselves to send it in; if Ms. ******** had taken this
advantage when the account was first placed, we would not have moved forward
with our collection actions; I am happy to share we do have a zero balance, so
we won't need to contact her in the future for this account.
A thorough review of this account has been done, and there
has been no wrongdoing by AAA Collections. Accordingly, AAA Collections asks
that this complaint be dismissed.

I am rejecting this response because: as I stated I was unable to afford the payment plans offered within there matrix therefore they were unwilling to accept what I could do as an acceptable arrangement. As far as the $**** I stated from my hsa card to be paid beginning of 2021. Like * ********** ****** ** ****** ************ ****** **** ** *** **** ** * ********* **** * *** * *** **** ******** ****** ***** ** ****** **** **** ******** *** ****** ** **** ** ********** **** ********** *** ******* **** ** *** *** ****** ** **** * ****** *** ** ***** I was more than willing to pay when able and if an arrangement I could have afforddd would have been offered I would have completely stuck with it. Instead every time I called and offered $** to $*** a month I was met with well collections may cont that’s not a suitable arrangement. And as I stated as well the only reason the balance is at 0 now is your forced me to put it on a credit card with **% interest bc I could not afford the payments you were requesting. And your rep stated if I didn’t pay the requested amount I may be garnished which I clearly could not afford either.
Sincerely,

Dear BBB.
Complaint filed by Ms. ********,
We are sorry Ms. ******** feels she needs to reject our
response; since the State of ** has guidelines on how long we can collect past
due balance, we must have some matrix to help the business who has offered
their services to be paid for them, if Ms. ******** had started paying once
these charges were incurred in 2021 at the $*** she mentions in this letter,
she would have had this balance paid in full by the time she filed this
complaint with our office.

I was contacted today by AAA collections around 11:15 A.M. Collector said I owed debt and I told her I already have a payment plan set up for the debt owed. She told me that was only temporarily (unknown to me, I thought payments have been being made. She said the temporary payment plan was only for 6 months. I asked to set up another arrangement and she said that I would have to pay 7 times the amount I was paying before. If I couldn’t do the amount she offered, she can’t help it going to the “next level” I asked her what that meant, and if she was threatening suing me. She couldn’t tell me what the next level meant. I want to work on a payment plan but they are not willing to set up an automatic payment plan for me. I have worked with collections before, and by far this is the hardest collection company to work with. This is the first time that a collection company will not take money from me. They said if I wanted to make a payment, I can go online to make the payment but again, it will be taken to the “next level”. The mental games that are played are horrible for my mental health. I get scared to answer their calls as I know I will be left in tears at my desk.Business Response

Dear BBB.
We have reviewed the complaint filed Ms. *****.
The balance of Ms. ******* account owing for service dates
going back to 2018, with a total owing outstanding amount of $********; if Ms.
***** makes $** a month payments, we need to set up payments for the next eight
years, this is not acceptable arrangements that we will set up in our office,
and without acceptable arrangements, it might be necessary for us to secure a
Judgment, this will give our office a more extended timeframe to collect these
past due balances, in no means we would return any payments to Ms. ***** if she
chooses to send them in upon herself, we want to advise that unless we have a
payment that is within our payment matrix, we could continue with our
collection efforts, The last payment Ms. ***** made to our office was in May
2022.

I set up a payment plan of $*** a month. In Jan payments stopped and I didn't notice. I am now being threatened with a lawsuit since I can't pay over triple of what was agreeded upon. The lady kept telling me that it was temporary payments and I needed to increase it. Never was I told that I was going to have to increase the payments to something I can't afford or that it was a temporary amount.Business Response
