We rent at one of *** ******** properties in ******* called ******** *****. On 1/18/2024 around 2 PM water began leaking through the ceiling vent in our kitchen. A few minutes later it then stared to leak from the light fixture a few feet away as well. My fiancé called me as this was happening and asked me to reach out to our property manager ******. When I spoke with her I stated there was water coming from our kitchen ceiling and the first question she asked me was "is it coming through the light fixture?" At this time I was unaware that it had spread to the light fixture I was only aware of the vent. I stated back to her that I was unsure and she responded back with "I will send *** that way." When *** entered our unit he looked over the area for less than 5 minutes, stated he was going to fix the issue upstairs (we are a lower unit with someone above us) and he would be in touch with ****** and left the unit. When he returned he first removed the glass dome of the fixture and stated that would be enough for air flow to get into the ceiling. My fiancé, who is IICRC certified in water mitigation, told *** and ****** that it was not enough to dry the affected area properly. *** once again left and returned unannounced once again and proceeded to remove the rest of the light fixture. During all of this back and forth my fiancé asked for rent to be taken off due to this mishap and having to live in a unit with feces water in our kitchen and above our ceiling. She then stated she will not take demands from him and if we aren't happy we can find another place. My fiancé took it upon himself to visit with the neighbors above us to see what had happened. After speaking with them we found out that *** had already been to their unit due to their toilet overflowing from the reservoir and the bowl onto the floor prior to our call. We were told he plunged the toilet aggressively, left the mess, and left the property without visiting our unit to see if it had affected us.
