      My parents moved out of a mobile home and left an unpaid electric bill. I was given the mobile home six months back. I am on the lease to the park and have the title. I have been staying with friends for months because this company AND the only company available for electric services in this area refuses to let me get electric “because I am associated with my parents” who owe a bill. This is not my bill and I’ve NEVER had a bad bill with them or any other utility company. I asked to be put on prepay- I’ve said I would pay a deposit but they continue to tell me my parents need to pay the bill first. I am 24 years old and have lived on my own since I was 18. I can’t force my parents to pay the bill. They have services through the other electric company in their new house. They DON’T live at that address and haven’t for over a year. I am not them and their account is not MINE. How can I be denied a utility for someone else’s bad debt? I know a lot of people who have unpaid bills - do I need to pay theirs too? They can collect their unpaid bill through the proper channels- sue my parents- but refusing me service When they have a monopoly on that side of town is not acceptable!!!

      ******* was living in the home while the meter was billing
      in his parent's name. After it was disconnected for non-payment, he submitted
      an application to put the service in his name. We contacted the owner of the
      trailer court, and they informed us that William had been living in the home
      for quite some time; therefore, the bill that was left owing under his parents'
      name is his responsibility.
