Offered me a discount if I paid in cash amount of $5100.00. I did so in two payments and received an Email receipt along with a description in a contract as to what he was to do. Some of the work was performed inadequately and some was not fixed at all. Owner/Contractor asked for another $300.00 since he miscalculated repair material. This I do not have a receipt for. I sent him pictures of the issues. Said he would be back to fix what was missed or needed additional work. I have text messages of me requesting when he would come and excuses from ****************** why he could not come. After several attempts to contact by texting or telephone the responses stopped. The work on the garage needs finished or touched **.In my opinion I would like a $1,000.00 refund so I can hire someone to fix/finish the work.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/10/2023

Since this complaint has been filed we have been back to Mrs. ******** house. After further investigation into the issues she has presented, I have a clear and definite understanding as to the cause of them. Originally when we first came to perform the work she requested, I discovered that there were several issues with her roof rafters and decking. I communicated this to ******************, and we discussed what I had found. The issues were that the roof rafters were rotting out and failing, and the decking was also failing.  This is the cause for the issues presented in the complaint.  The issues with the trim and caulking were solely due to the failing roof putting pressure on these areas. When we came back to repair the work, I reminded her of our previous conversation about replacing the roof and she responded with oh yes, I forgot about that. We still repaired the work, even though it was not a workmanship issue, rather an existing roof issue. I did not charge her, even after realizing the cause. We finished the repairs and the customer was satisfied. Two to three days later, I received another email saying there were two new issues that she found. These are minor and were not discussed at the time of the repairs we are still going to resolve them.

As for the $300 she referred to in the complaint, that was not a miscalculation of the materials rather it was additional work she requested to be done.

My hope is to always keep my customers happy and I am more than willing to return a third time to resolve any additional issues.

I am rejecting this response because:

Issues with the caulking were applied skimpy. Applied the 2nd time was much more adequate.

Rotted rafters and/or decking: we talked about it as a possibility. Yes, I do remember "the talk".

Also, the 2nd time (AUG. 25) ****************** came he brought a worker. Told me the man did not speak English. Also told me that he (******************) "I'm not doing the work!". Returned to his vehicle, was on the phone most of the time. Would on occasion get out to pick up scraps of material and put in a garbage bag. Occasionally would go to the worker and speak to him very quietly.

Mid afternoon ****************** came to me and said he had to leave to pick his son up from College. If I saw anything that needed attention to get his worker and for me to point at what needed attention. I did not feel it my responsibility to direct his worker. Worker was gone around 6:00 pm. Nobody there when I came out to have a look at the repairs. As stated by ****************** "Finished the repair and the customer was satisfied." Not correct at all.

The two new issues were created by the worker repairs ****************** did not do when this started last year. Now the trim on the South side of the garage, has metal over the trim that has been bashed in a couple of spots. Also on the West side of the garage now has a gap that let's the sun shine thru in the evening.

On the 25th is when advised ****************** about the two new issues.

28th is when he responded. Sent pics on 31st of newly needed repairs. Told me he would be here on 9/5/23.

Had to text him at 8:42 am on the 5th as to when he would be here. Said he had been sick all weekend. I asked when he had planned on letting me know he wasn't coming. Said he had started an Email when I contacted him.  Said he would come if I wanted him to. I did not respond. There was no effort on his part to reschedule.

Lastly, the additional fee of $300 ****************** claims was for other work I wanted done is not so. I have a witness that was sitting at the table when he said I owed him money because of his miscalculation on what was needed to finish the repairs.

    The complaint stands.
