I placed an order on their website for a Birth Certificate from the State of North Carolina on Feb 26, 2022. I was told that my estimated delivery date was April 8, 2022. I contacted them on May 7, 2022 asking for a refund. I was told I had to wait 120 to 125 days. I have written, called, chatted online with them and now they are saying it's business days. It's been over 160 days since I placed this order and now I've been told I can't cancel it until 8/28. The representative today said that the NC office closed which caused delays. I feel as though that should have been disclosed PRIOR to ordering and being told to expect a 6 week turn around time. That is blatant fraudulent advertising. I went to the state and got the paperwork I needed. I no longer need this documentation and simply wish to receive my money back and never deal with this company again.Customer Answer

I made a purchase on VitalChek website for a birth certificate for my son Daniel Blanco lll, born 1/22/1987 reference #***-***-**** in the amount of $68.50; few days into this order I received an email by VitalChek requesting additional information which I provided and the woman seem satisfy and we hang up. On 8/8/22; I pickup an envelope at the UPS in the amount of $15.50; a letter from a Stephanie E. Ostrowski, NYS Registrar, ###-###-#### indicating "NO RECORD CERTIFICATION" No Refund Due..I called and spoke with a Angela and she indicated that since they did their job of investigation this was their fee. I asked why did my application for request went through if NYS does NOT process New York City birth certificates. All she could tell me was they did their job and no refund is due. I review VitalChek reviews and line and apparently many people have complaints about this company. Charging $68.50; for an inquiry and not finding any records is an outrageous fee. I don't mind paying something but this is outright ripping off people. I am on a fix income and would appreciate is someone please look into this company. This is the 2nd time I am writing because apparently the first time I indicate the incorrect name of the company ref # ********. I am on a fix income and losing so much money is hurtful especially on a fix income. I did not travel to the Dept Of Health here in NYC because the trains scared me. Please help me.Business Response

Placed an order for birth certificate copy from company February 11, 2022. Paid additional fee for next day shipping. Informed that expected delivery date was 60-75 business days from date of order. I placed an order for a duplicate birth certificate with this company on June 5, 2022. I couldn't find mine and I thought this would be an easy solution. I knew mine was somewhere but I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a second copy for when I found the first copy.
After placing the order, I was told I needed a notarization. I was not physically able to get to a place to get a notarization; meanwhile, this was not an urgent matter to get a copy. Therefore, I searched their website on how to cancel. They state to simply not submit the required documentation and the order would automatically cancel itself. To reiterate, they did not disclose upfront that additional work would be required like the notarization. I never would have placed the order.
On June 20, 2022, the company proceeded to charge my credit card $12.95. I sent them an email asking why and I got no response. I didn't notice the charge right away so the email was a couple weeks later.
I then sent another email around July 31, 2022 asking for a refund. This time I did get a response from the company saying "When the order was placed you were advised a notarized sworn statement was needed before asking for your card information and you agreed and continued. We show that your order is canceled as you requested through our web site's order status page. Please be aware that you were still charged the non-refundable VitalChekfee of $12.95, per the Terms and Conditions agreement that you confirmed at the time the order was placed."
I was not advised the notarized statement was needed. I am certain of that or I wouldn't have ordered. As for the non-refundable $12.95 fee - maybe they hid it somewhere, or that is a lie too. However, that is a moot point because they misrepresented what I ordered and I should have simply been able to provide a refund.
I sent one last email and once again didn't get a response.
This company is shady in their business dealings and people should be cautioned.Customer Answer

I placed an order to get my daughter's birth certificate so that she can attend school this fall. My order was placed on 05/05/2022 and to date I have not received the birth certificate. The site says it takes ***** days to obtain. Thus far, it has been 90 days. I have called and can't get a customer service rep on the phone, or am placed on hold with ******* never coming back to the phone, and I have sent multiple emails with no reply. On March 29 I paid vitalcheck $44.95 for birth certificate to go on a cruise to ****** I had to miss my cruise because my car certificate never arrived. I reached out to the company on numerous occasions they kept telling me that they ************ the money they have nothing to do with Cook County records and when I get it my birth certificate.Business Response
