On August 2nd, 2022 I took my truck to Budget Brakes so they could replace the brake pads. That is all I wanted them to do and let them know that is all I wanted done. On the first phone call they told me the price would be little over $100. Once I actually dropped my truck off he called back to inform me that the brakes would actually cost over 300 dollars and tried to up sale me rotors and calibers also. Again I told him just to replace the brake pads. Another 30 minute went by and he called again to insist that I replace the calibers and again I told him I did not want the calibers replaced just the brake pads. No where in that conversation did he let me know that the caliber bracket pins was seized up. He called back about 20 minutes later to inform me that he took a torch to the caliber bracket pins to try to lossen it up but he couldn't get them lose. At that time I told him to stop everything he was doing and that I would be back there in a few minutes. At no time did he even let me know that the pin was seized and did not even ask for my permission to take the torch to my truck. If he had I would have told him no, please do not do that. He never once even tried to put lubericant on the pin to loosen it up. Since he took the torch to the pin I have no way of even knowing if he intentionally sabotaged my truck to try and up sale me. I had to take my truck home unfinished and ended up having to replace the pads and now the caliber brackets myself. He charged me $116 dollars just for the two back brake pads. Ended up getting grease all over my interior and his coworker bragged about just wanting to take a joyride in my truck.

    Business Response

    Date: 08/03/2022

Mr. ******** came into our Location on Brainerd road on 8-2-2022 with his work truck, a 2003 Ford F-250 with 189,000 miles. He requested an inspection as his brakes were making a grinding sound.

After the inspection we suggested that the customer replace the brake pads and brake rotors on both the front and rear of the vehicle, as well as both front calipers. The brake pads on the front of the vehicle had roughly 10% of pad life remaining, the brake pads on the back had 0% pad life remaining. Both front rotors were at or below the manufacturer suggested discard and both rear rotors did not have the required thickness to be resurfaced. The brake calipers were suggested as the caliper slide pins were seized and not allowing the caliper to move freely.

The customer then declined all services but replacing the front brake pads and rear brake pads.

After speaking with the store manager I was informed that the brake pads in the rear were installed without issue, however the brake pads in the front could not be installed without the slide pin moving freely. The customer was then suggested to purchase the caliper once more and declined.

The store manager then performed a slide pin service on the vehicle free of charge. This service includes: removing the brake caliper bracket from the vehicle and heating up the bracket so the slide pin may be removed. The service was unsuccessful and the slide pin was unable to be removed. The customer was then made aware that the brake pads would not be able to be installed without the purchase of the new caliper.

    Customer declined replacing the caliper.

The customer then left, purchasing only the rear brake pads for an amount of $116.31.
After the visit, I spoke to Mr. ******** on the phone and he was offered a full refund as he was unsatisfied with his service.

    He declined.
