I have been a customer with Barnes Exterminating company for three years. When I started with them they said they would do follow ups for free. I have used that follow up service once with no issue. June 13,2023 Barnes Exterminating company came out to spray on their normal schedule. I paid them in Full for all services totally $140 dollars on July 6, 2023. On August 29 I sent a text for a follow up service from Barnes Exterminating because the spiders I had requested before be treated are still bad. That it didn't help in June. This was my only 2nd request since being a customer with them for 3 years. So they said they would be out Friday 9/1. Which they did come. Then last week I got a bill from them for $70 (which they raised a few months ago without my knowledge or consent) for the service on the 9/1. When I text they said they came during my quarterly time. So they just charged me for that new quarterly visit instead of a free follow up visit that I thought I was getting. At no time in my request for them to come back out did they say it would be a paying visit. They just said someone would be out Friday 9/1 and nothing else.

The customer was billed for a service  performed in the month it was due. However, I understand there was miscommunication close on months. I have voided the charge. Thank you.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me if they are being honest about not charging me the free service I should have received.

      Sincerely,

Barnes Exterminating Company Inc was hired on 10/19/2022 to conduct a termite inspection at the property and provide Wood Destroying Insect Inspection Report. The Barnes's report concluded that "No visible evidence of wood destroying insects was observed". I closed on the property 11/18/2022 without knowing that there was visible evidence of termite in the property. Contrary to the inspection results, the pictures attached shows that there was an obvious (for any termite inspector) presence/evidence of active termite in the property unfinished basement, specifically located in two areas: 1) the wood panels (6 feet high) that are easily visible and accessible (to any termite inspector) including heavy live termites from bottom to top (6 feet of evidence) and 2) termite tunnels in the walls of the basement (same area). Furthermore, the whole floor line area between the wall and concrete floor is a red flag for termite. To provide more evidence that the termite inspector failed to report the evidence of termites, Barnes Exterminating Company on 12/1/2022 acknowledged that they failed to report live termite. To make up for that error, they offered a discounted termite mitigation plan for $750. I declined their offer as I will not go with the same company that failed to inspect the house for termite despite a clear termite evidence. I paid another company $950 for treatment of the termite at my house. I sent Barnes Exterminating Company a letter of demand (on 12/4/2022) to pay the cost of treatment but did not receive any reply. I have picture evidence that the areas where the termite found was accessible to the inspector.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/12/13) */ Customer was offered a discounted service and guarantee for termite control. Termite evidence was missed due to cluttered conditions on the initial inspection. There was also NO live termites present at the property. This is also stated in the other companies paperwork. It is also in our opinion that based on the submitted paperwork from the company the client hired that they did not treat the property properly for termite control and overcharged this client. We are willing to refund the original inspection amount of $85 but We will NOT issue this client a refund of any treatments they hired someone else for. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/12/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Here is my response to the three false claims made by Barnes Exterminating company: 1) Barnes claim: "Termite evidence was missed due to cluttered conditions on the initial inspection". My response: I have pictures from the previous home owner showing that there was enough space in the basement for the inspector to find the termites. Plus, the termites were on a 6 foot long wooden panel that should not been missed. It is a red-flag for any inspector to see wood on slab! I can provide pictures to BBB and the Barnes as an evidence. 2) Barnes claim "There was also NO live termites present at the property. This is also stated in the other companies paperwork". My response: That is absolutely false. I have a letter from Barnes Company stating that "Our technician manager, was out on 12/1/2022 to reinspect the property at xxx in Johnson City, TN xxx. He did see the live termites that our previous technician failed to in the termite letter we had performed before.". 3) Terminix stated clearly in their inspection letter that there was live termite. I have the inspection and treatment report from Terminix that shows that. This is contrary to the false claim by Barnes. If I knew there were termite in the property before closing, I could have asked the previous owners to pay for the treatment plan. Now, because Barnes failed termite inspection, I had to pay for cost of treatment plan. Again, all evidences are available to BBB and the Company. I demand compensation for the failed inspection that cost me $950. Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2022/12/16) */ We have no further comments on this matter. Client has submitted no documentation on what he says is false. We will not be issuing any refund for work we did not perform. Client is advised to contact our attorneys. Thank you. Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2023/01/06) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The business has NOT responded to my letter and documentations I provided on Dec. 14th. I could not find any response back to BBB. No refund has been received. Business Response /* (4000, 19, 2023/01/10) */ We will not e issuing a refund on work provided by another company. We have no further comments on this matter.
