I contracted with Tri cities roofing to place a new roof on my house at *** ***** ****** ***** ***** ****** TN 37686 in May of 2022. I then tried to sell my house in 2023 and the house did not pass inspection. One of the reasons why is because new shingles were placed on rotting wood for the roof. I reached out to the owner of the roofing company and he admitted that he had previously fired workers for this (see attached picture of the email). I communicated back and forth for a month to get this issue resolved and he kept putting me off. I also spoke to the county inspector who stated that he had never filed an original permit to have the roof replaced and has not filed any previous permits in that county.

At this point after giving him an ultimatum to finish the roof he hung up on me. I would like this to be rectified otherwise I will have to pursue legal action.

There has been no putting Mrs. ****** off in any capacity. She lives out of state so she had to coordinate someone being at the residence for me to get by and first take a look at the issue. After Mrs. ****** rescheduled me going by the first time to see what was wrong she said her neighbor could be there and she would let me know when. I met him as scheduled and we found the issue. There was a small softball size area in a piece of decking that didn't get changed out. While I was there her neighbor said she had complained about other things in the attic such as the roof trusses and rafters coming apart and that we didn't fix it like we should have. Also that the spot was going to leak and cause other problems. Her neighbor then told her that all those other issues were not our responsibility and it was the builder or framers issue and that the underlayment and vapor barrier we installed would not allow water in and that it was not going to be an issue. I had previously been told by Mrs. ****** that we were going to have to replace her entire roof because it was installed incorrectly, I politely told her the rest of the roof was perfect except for that one small area and we would get the one piece of decking changed out as soon as possible. I had also explained to her that some of that crew had been caught taking shortcuts on other jobs and they were ultimately let go and that I would supervise the repair on site. As for the permit situation, her property is not in the city limits and working for two other companies before starting my own I was never aware of one being pulled in the county. I assured her we would get one for the repair and pay for the installation permit if necessary.

Moving forward a few days I was asked when I could complete the repair, I believe I told her that Thursday or Friday coming up would work. She said that was good and someone would meet me there. Well, that was cancelled by Mrs. ****** because she couldn't find anyone to be there on the initial date and time agreed upon. I told her we could move it back a week to the next Thursday or Friday and she agreed. It ended up raining that next week and we did not have one clear day for around ten days straight. I kept in contact and we were doing everything we could to get out there but again Mrs. ****** was in Florida and either no one was there or her neighbor couldn't make it when we were readily available. Unfortunately the days she could have someone there it rained, and since we were limited in the availability of someone being there we had to reschedule two or three more times.

I tried and tried to explain to her that it was just an unfortunate coincidence with the scheduling and rain but that as soon as she could get someone there open a clear day we would get it done. Then when we finally got a date and time that worked for everyone on a clear day she called complaining about everything. I told her wee think we have it figured out as long as the weather holds but she was already threatening legal action amongst other things. She continually said we put her off even though she couldn't get anyone there several times. She continued to berate me and the company on the phone and after a while I told her that if she couldn't have a civilized conversation that the call would be ended. She began on again and would not let me speak so I told her if you want us to complete the repair we would get it done, I continually tried to explain the weather had been bad for nearly three weeks at that point, we were not putting her off, and that it would get finished. After several minutes of continued rebuke I wasn't going to take any more. I finally said wow have every intention of fixing this but I would not be spoken to that way she should find someone else and I hung up the phone.

Had she not talked down and criticized us in the manner she did this small piece of decking would have been completed the very next clear day.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The owner of Tri cities roofing has made many claims that are not true. Even after the problem with the roof was identified and he admitted that the workers have been fired for doing this to other roofs (proof is in the emails sent to the BBB) I still gave him over a month to fix it but he either did not respond to my texts and calls or would respond a week later. He only became determined to take care of the area after he hung up on me, told me good luck, and saw the BBB complaint against his business. . I don’t recommend him to anyone at this point and I am glad that the lawyer has been dealing with his lawyer to get the area fixed.

    Sincerely,

I decided to let it go through the lawyers because Mrs. ****** was very hard to communicate with." My lawyer has been in communication with her lawyer and we had a date worked out to fix the issue week before last and the night before I get a call, from my lawyer, saying not to go. That no one could be there once again and he would let me know when they situate everything. This should have been corrected, because there was a mistake made, but it should have been worked out months ago. If I were to reschedule on a client as many times as Mrs. ****** rescheduled on me then I probably would not get that a job.

Either way, we are going to take care of the issue but unfortunately have to wait on lawyers to come together.
