139 Self Storage on multiple occasions did not offer access to items being stored, regardless that they offer 24 hour access. The latest occasion occurred today, on 12/27/2022 at about 11am. The access to the storage unit was blocked by the owners vehicle. When asking the owner to move the vehicle, they became irritated and asked that I walk to the unit and remove the items by foot and carry them back outside the gate where my vehicle was parked. I told them that the box was large and I would prefer to be able to access my storage unit by vehicle. After waiting for over 20 minutes for the owners to move their vehicle, I walked to my unit and grabbed my box by foot. While loading it my vehicle the owner asked me my name. I ignored the request and the left premises. Later that day I received a text message telling me I had until January 15th to remove my items from the storage unit as I was being evicted due to section 6 of the lease agreement. After speaking with the manager they stated this was a statement regarding the owner had the right to refuse services. I have paid my storage fees, with no late payments. The owners refused to speak to me regarding the conflict and had their granddaughter speak over the phone. The storage unit has swiftly taken my fees each month of 260 dollars. They have on multiple occasions not offered access to my storage unit. On this last occasion, they have now refused me to access my unit and during moments of frustration have evicted me from my paid for unit. I will have to pay for moving truck, find time and bodies to help move the items, and find another storage unit. I would like my payments returned to me for this cost.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/25/2023

Through the afternoon and evening of December 26, 2022, inclement weather came through the East Tennessee/Kodak, TN. area. When the facility owner arrived at the premises the evening of December 26, the parking spaces for the office/apt. were occupied by the vehicles whose owners had been unable to drive (because of roads), to their homes further up the road, and had left their vehicles there with explanatory notes that they would return the next day but had simply walked to their homes that night.  As a result, the owner parked in the only remaining spot off the road, the facilities driveway.

When Mr. M arrived the morning of the 27th, this was explained to him.  The owners said they would moved their car, but it would take a few minutes to dress for the cold (the owner had a recent back injury and was using a walker).  Mr. M was told he was welcome to walk through if he needed immediate access.  Mr. M behaved in a very hostile and uncivilized manner, both verbally and physically.  We welcomed him to take his business elsewhere.  Additionally note, the granddaughter referred above is a grown woman, the facility manager (not a mere child).

    Complaint: 18854086

I am rejecting this response because:

The business did not respond other than giving a new account of the occurrence, which is not an accurate description. I want future families looking for storage to know what type of business this is. This is not a business for families or professionals. There are numerous facilities in the area and costumers should find a facility that offers accurate services and that have a professional mannerisms. I have no gain in this complaint as we are no longer using the facilities, but the facility has something to lose. The business referenced this complaint when speaking to them on the phone to determine what actions needed to be taken, since no formal information was supplied regarding the eviction text message. The facility refused to work with us due to this BBB complaint on a date of storage removal.

    Sincerely,
    Mr. M
