I was billed for durable medical equipment that I not only did not receive but was on a date of service I was not at the business. I called multiple times to resolve this issue and spoke to the billing agent and she said she would investigate the issue. Ive never heard back from her. She rarely returns calls and has been zero help. Today I received my bank statement and see the charge was made without my authorization for the amount of the charges. So I went o to the billing portal, sure enough it shows paid. I did not authorize that payment, these charges are fraudulent charges and I demand a refund for it.Customer Answer

I injured my foot because I am blind and ran my foot into a metal chair that i did not see. Campbell clinic was the only place that accepted my insurance. At their walk in clinic I was informed that they accepted my insurance and I had broken my toe badly, that it needed to be taped, and a protective boot worn to isolate it for healing and prevent walking on it or injuring it further. Not once was I told insurance didnt cover it. As I sat in the waiting area being fitted with the boot I joked with the person about being clumsy because I was blind. He gave me a form to sign in his words, "to show that you received the boot." Not one mention of any cost that insurance didnt cover. I asked him to place his finger on the line so I could sign it as I was legally blind and couldnt see it. He complied. On my way out the receptionist tried to get me to pay for the ENTIRE visit whereupon I informed her that I was told by them that they accept my insurance and there was no copay. I had to tell her that it is illegal to make a patient pay when they are in network. Reluctantly she agreed to bill my insurance. A week later I received a bill for the boot. When I contacted them the billing department said that insurance didnt cover it and I was responsible. (I suppose next they will start charging for casts as "not neccessary") When I told her that the man who had given me the form did NOT state a cost that my insurance would not cover, she replied it's right there on the form. I replied, "ma'am, i'm blind and I told everyone that, including him" She rudely retorted a denial and that I was informed of the cost, but she wasnt present, nor would I have taken the boot if I had known I would have to pay out of pocket. Half of my income already pays for eye medicine that insurance doesnt cover. I would NOT have accepted ANOTHER cost This is NOT the way a MEDICAL establishment should be treating visually impaired patients. This is taking advantage of those people that dont know their rights, cant see and are trust medical "professionals" to be honest. It was ILLEGAL to try to make a patient pay for a covered visit and it shoujld have been made clear that the boot, a necessary item to prevent injury, would NOT be covered. You shouldnt have to worry that your DOCTOR'S ****** is as ***** as a used car salesmanBusiness Response

As the patient stated she was informed that there would be a cost for the post op shoe that she was given because her insurance company does not cover this item. We will write off the cost of $14.00 for her this time but in the future she will be expected to pay for items that are non-covered by her insurance company.
Thanks
