I am receiving repeat spams (almost daily) from email address "****** ***** ". These are obviously coming from schoolstore.com, using a fake name pretending to be a relative. The email starts out "Hi Grandma, I am helping my school with our SchoolStore project, and I thought you could help me." I don't know ****** ***** and I'm certainly not her grandmother. The links inside the email point to **************************. This is clearly a phishing attempt by ReadingForEducation possibly in connection with schoolstore.com. This is not only deceptive, but fraudulent. I ask that ReadingForEducation be investigated by the BBB and that spams from them STOP.

We are sorry you received this email. A student at a participating school entered your email address for us to contact you as part of their SchoolStore project. It appears your email was entered by a student whose grandmother has the same name, we sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused.

Our company has been proudly serving schools for 43 years, helping schools raise funds for their education programs. We want to assure you that this was not a phishing attempt or any form of fraud. We have immediately removed your email address from our system to ensure you receive no further communication from us.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we apologize again for any distress this may have caused.

      Sincerely,
      SchoolStore

I do not accept this. The company forwarded me an email claiming that my email address was given by the parent or guardian with permission to send emails on behalf of their student. This is a lie.  I do not have nor have I ever had children in the school system, and I have no friends with kids in the school system, and I've never even been to that state and have no connection to the state nor to the company, nor to the school that the scammer was allegedly trying to solicit donations to.  When I told them that, they changed the story again, and told me that someone named ******* ****** gave them my email on behalf of her student, and "listed you as Grandma on her salutations."  Again, I don't know ******** ******, I don't know ****** *****, the name on the original emails.  If it was really from someone named ******** ******, why would they use the name ****** *****, and why would they use that name with an email address of customer-service@*****************************.   Why would they continue to send this OVER AND OVER AND OVER again?

Additionally the sender of this addressed the email to ************************* which is NOT my email address.  But the headers show that was a faked address then bounced to my real email address, a common tactic of spammers.  If this was legitimate, they would not do this, they would just address it to my email address.

I stand by my complaint. I uploaded the latest original email with all of the headers to show where it originated and the embedded links. You can see that I'm not the first victim of this, as there is another report, and there are reports on other social media sites of the same thing happening, sometimes addressing to "Grandma", sometimes to "Aunt."   This is a practice, not an exception. I would ask that this company be investigated for this practice.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *******

They have contacted me and assured me that they will remove my list from their email list.  I don't believe their reasoning for how it happened, but I will drop this and assume they will adhere to their promise that I won't receive any more of these repeating spams (or any new ones).  Thank you.

My issue is with deceptive practices. Yesterday, October 9, 2024, I received an email supposedly from a ******* *******. The email read Hi Aunt *****, am helping my school with our Reading For Education project, and I thought you could help ******** here to find out more. Thanks ******* *******.I do not know any Paisley Glisson and am not about to click a link sent in a random email. When I checked the email address of the sender of the email, it was ******************************************************************************* method of soliciting sales is extremely deceptive and needs to be stopped.

Were sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate your feedback. Reading For Education is a school program designed to support classrooms and schools by inviting families, friends, and community members to contribute. In our program, parents provide a list of email addresses, allowing students to share donation links for gift cards, books, and materials that go directly toward educational resources for their school.
If you dont recognize the students name, it's possible someone provided your email by mistake, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion. You can unsubscribe from future emails if you prefer, please let us know if we can assist you further!

I am rejecting this response because: I believe this business has a duty to insure this doesnt happen to others. They are putting the onus on the person receiving these very misleading emails rather than correcting the problem on their end. They need to ensure that emails appearing to come from a child are identified as actually coming from a business and the school who supposedly benefits from the fundraiser should be identified.

      Sincerely,
