Cumberland Heights is unethical and provides a low quality of service. After CH was informed I was professional with a license on the line for recovery, four days of isolation and three individual counseling sessions, CH / Dan (counselor) determined I needed to stay an additional 30 days. I arrived with 23 days of sobriety, no medical concerns and was marked as high risk patient just like the patients who had overdosed and almost died. At the completion of the normal 28 day program, CH recommended I stay an additional 30 days and that I must complete the 30 days at CH. I took their recommendation and was going to go to a facility closer to my residence but CH informed me that I was going to be medical discharged against medical advice if I took my business elsewhere. My counselor "Dan", who determined I was the worst of the worst offenders of substance abusers gave his decision after three (sessions) hours of discussion on the fourth day of my residential stay. My offense was that I had drank four bottles of wine in the previous two months and did not consider myself a high risk alcoholic. CH / Dan indicated that I would need to stay (and pay CH) in order to obtain a positive review after 60 days in order to obtain my license to continue on with my career. CH had low attendance in their aftercare treatment facility which unethically motivated CH to push me into their program and only their program. Ethically if they thought I needed additional treatment, I should have been given the choice of location.
The substance abuse treatment is below standard and the cost is above industry standard. Dan (counselor) did not provide an individual treatment program. Many of my fellow patients were also advised to attend the additional 30 days but since those patients did not have license on the line, were not threatened with "against medical advice" discharges. Do not go to CH if you have a license on the line as this will ensure a longer and costlier stay.
