  On August 26, 2016, BBB notified National Home Shield of a concerning pattern in consumer complaints alleging National Home Shield seeks to mislead or deceive consumers by sending letters that include the following statements:
  
  -"Our firm is notifying you that your current Home Warrant policy will expire. . . ."
  -"You may qualify to extend coverage for up to 3 years."
  -"Failure to call and prevent a lapse of coverage will result in you being liable for all costs associated with any home repairs."
  
  Consumers indicate that they have either never had home warranty coverage or have never had coverage with National Home Shield which not only prevents the chance that coverage could "expire" or lapse but the lack of initial coverage with National Home Shield does not support an "extension" of coverage as indicated in the correspondence.
  
  BBB requested National Home Shield's cooperation in eliminating the underlying cause of this pattern in complaints.
  
  On October 6, 2016, National Home Shield indicated the company was omitting the concerning statements from its correspondence effective September 26, 2016.
  
  In response, BBB will be monitoring National Home Shield's complaint activity for the coming months to determine whether the underlying cause for the pattern is being reduced or eliminated.
