Took truck for DoT inspection at Precision Truck and Trailer Repairs on FM-529 in Houston. The inspector failed because of missing and broken spring bushings and burnt tails lights. They quote me for $2500 for the spring bushings and $200-$600 for the tail light. I took to another mechanic who did the work of replacing 4 spring bushings and tail lights for $1100 (only $75 for one tail light). After the work was done, the mechanic showed me all 4 bushings he replaced and told me that there lot of life on them. He said there was nothing wrong with them. They were worn out but still in working condition. They were not cracked nor missing as the inspector at the Precision Truck shop told me. This is a clear evidence that people at Precision Truck and Trailer and Repairs shop are using the DoT inspection to force customers to make unnecessary repairs. I hope that by filling this report other customers do not fall victim of such bad business practice.
