We are requesting reimbursement for damages to our chimney which was rendered unsafe/unusable, as a result of services provided by United Home Services. While the full timeline is listed in the uploaded email conversation .pdf document, the summary is as follows:- United Home Services utilized a chemical cleaning agent when cleaning our chimney that severely compromised the metal chimney flue by means of oxidation (rust).- United Home Services has consistently evaded my communication attempts surrounding this and will not meaningfully engage.- Embers were coming from my chimney and loud banging noises from inside the wall where the flue is located. I called the **************** as I needed to rule out a chimney fire.- I even asked United Home Services which chemical they used to clean my chimney. I wanted to do research to see if it was considered best practices. I was informed by our regular chimney sweep company (we only used United Home Services because our normal tech was unavailable at the time) that metal fireplace flues are never cleaned with chemicals--that this is not industry practice and is unsafe. I tried multiple times to obtain the chemical name, but I still do not have this information (and it has been multiple months since asking). We spent $3300.88 fixing this mistake caused by United Home Services' use of a chemical that never should have touched our fireplace and chimney in the first place. My many attempts to get this issue addressed (both by phone and email) have gone unaddressed. I have been extremely patient, yet United Home Services are the ones blaming me for the "delay" in addressing this--but they are the ones evading my attempts at remedying this situation.I am attaching photos of before and after the work. These photos show the oxidative effect of the chemical clean. I also saved a section of damaged flue pipe should you want to send an investigator to look at it in person.I have also attached the invoices showing repair costs.Business Response

As we already replied to the customer my tech was wiling to address the issues related to us as we have no responsibility for the liner issues, we also issued full refund due to dissatisfaction.Customer Answer
Date: 05/22/2025
I am rejecting this response because:
- The tech did not offer to fix any of this. The tech caused the issue and did not even realize it. Never once did the tech suggest his chemical cleaner made my chimney unsafe to operate. The only thing the tech offered to do was paint over the brown rust streaks on the outside of the chimney caused by his chemical clean. (And he didn't even mention the obvious streaks until I pointed them out.) I refused his offer: I was done having United Home Services touch any part of my house. And it is important to note that this was a cosmetic issue. My complaint is focused on the fire hazard that was created by United Home Services work on my house.
- United Home Services refunded me for the cost of the chemical clean that damaged my chimney, rendering it unsafe to use. I am not disputing this and am not sure why the business is bringing it up. It is only fair they refund me for the action that caused the damage.
- In addition to that refund, I am requesting payment to cover what I had to pay out of pocket to have the damage repaired--damage that was caused by United Home Services. Their decision to use a chimney cleaning chemical is what rendered by chimney unsafe to operate without risk of burning down my home (and potentially killing my family in the process).
The business's response is typical in terms of my communications with them: evasive, vague, and blaming the customer. I trusted ********************** with my wallet--and my family's safety. That trust was massively broken.

I contacted United Home Services to have our air ducts cleaned. I asked if there were any hidden fees or extras and was told there were not. They said they would clean all vents in our home using a super high powered vacuum and they would add a deodorizer at the end that would make the air smell fresh. *** and one other person came. They hooked up a large vacuum on a supply vent in our living room, then walked into other rooms opening the vents. *** then tells my husband it would be hundreds more to clean all supply and return vents. My husband told him we werent financially able to pay more than the agreed price to clean ALL vents in our home. So *** and his partner just went outside and sat in their truck for about 15 more minutes, then came in and carted their vacuum off and charged us $129 plus tax. This vacuum didnt do anything except push dust in the air. We looked at all the vents through the house after they left and all the loose dust and dog hair that was there to start with was still there. This so called vacuum didnt clean or remove anything. They supposedly were only hooking up to one supply vent that would clean ALL vents in our home. Then they tell us it doesnt include return air vents? We live off social security and were assured they would clean ALL air ducts for $129 plus tax. . Our health is not good and we were promised all vents would be cleaned and no hidden fees. Not only did they not remove any dust or hair, but the dust they stirred in our air is making my husbands breathing way worse. Nothing promised was done, including no air freshener. Very unhappy that we were conned with false promises! We would like a refund. We were definitely conned. So unhappy, after expecting to have clean air ducts, but instead we paid $146. after tax for nothing. We sacrificed buying groceries this week to pay for nothing. I am outraged and thoroughly disappointed. How is it legal to rip off senior citizens on disability?Business Response

To the BBB Representative,
We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by the customer regarding an air duct cleaning service provided by United Home Services. While we regret that the customer feels dissatisfied, we respectfully disagree with the claims made in the complaint and would like to offer the following clarification:
1. Service Booked and Delivered as Advertised
The customer scheduled a basic air duct cleaning at our promotional rate of $129, which includes:
Hookup of a commercial-grade vacuum system to the main supply duct
A basic cleaning of the connected line
A verbal system inspection by the technician
This promotion is not a full-house deep cleaning of all supply and return vents, nor does it include deodorizer unless the customer chooses to upgrade. This was explained over the phone at the time of booking and again by the technician on-site. The technician followed all outlined procedures, and the service was completed only after the customer gave verbal and written approval.
2. No Hidden Fees or Pressure
Our team did not charge any additional or hidden fees. While an upgrade was offered for deep cleaning and deodorizer, the customer declined. There was no pressure or upselling beyond presenting available options, which is standard practice across the industry.
3. Allegation of No Work Done Is Inaccurate
We have technician reports and time-stamped logs that confirm:
The vacuum system was connected and operated
A basic cleaning of the main line was performed
The customer was present during the service and raised no objections or concerns at the time
The claim that nothing was done is simply not accurate. It appears the customer misunderstood the scope of the basic package, despite it being explained multiple times.
4. Customer Service and Follow-Up
The customer did not contact our office directly after the appointment with any concerns. We were not given an opportunity to address the situation before a public complaint was posted. We always encourage customers to call us first so we can offer resolution, issue refunds when appropriate, or schedule a return visit if needed.
5. Commitment to Ethical Business
We take pride in serving thousands of customers every year with transparency, professionalism, and respect. We do not engage in deceptive practices and never take advantage of any customerespecially seniors or those with limited means. Our staff is trained to clearly explain service options and to proceed only with customer approval.
Conclusion:
We respectfully ask the BBB to review our response and recognize that United Home Services:
Provided the exact service that was booked
Charged the agreed-upon rate with no hidden fees
Performed the work professionally and ethically
Remains open to resolving any customer dissatisfaction fairly
We are happy to discuss this matter directly with the customer and invite them to contact our office at ************** or ******************************************************* for resolution.
Sincerely,
United Home Services

Chimney ****************** I confirmed $125 price before they came. There was not a proper inspection done, they did not go outside or on the roof or look at the chimney like previous inspections. All that was done was a shop vac inside of fireplace and I believe sent something up the chimney to clean. Then tried to sell me either a service of $427.33 or $2142.00 and told me I could not use my fireplace until one of these was done for some minor cracks in the fireplace. Now I believe they said this so if anything happened like a fire they would not be held liable because they told me not to use it because it wasn't cleaned/inspected properly and I did not buy their additional services. At one point I was told they would remove the $125 if I would just pay the $400 fee. Where as a property inspection only noted yes there were cracks, but they were just something to be watched no action needed. When I did go to pay, I was asked for cash/check and was charged an additional fee for using my debit card.I have attached the 2 quotes given to me, my paid receipt & a proper inspection that was done noting the fireplace is fine.Business Response

To whom it may concern,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I have thoroughly reviewed both your complaint and the service file related to your chimney sweep and inspection. At United Home Services, we strive to provide top-quality service with transparency and professionalism, and I would like to address your concerns in more detail.
Inspection and Cracks in Fireplace: After reviewing the details and comparing them with the inspection conducted by our ****-certified technicians, I believe there may be some misunderstanding regarding the severity of the cracks. The multiple cracks in your firebox compromise its structural integrity, which is why our technician recommended a replacement to ensure the safety of your fireplace. While another inspection may have noted the cracks as minor, we err on the side of caution, as we prioritize safety over risk. Our technicians are trained to identify even minor issues that could escalate into bigger problems.
Its also important to note that your chimney itself was found to be in good condition, which is why we only focused on the firebox repair recommendations. As you will see from the attached pictures, the chimney sweep was performed thoroughly as part of our service, and an inspection was indeed completed.
Payment Process: Regarding your concerns about payment, we accept cash, checks, and credit cards, though we do prefer check or cash to minimize processing fees. I apologize if this was not clearly communicated at the time of payment. Rest assured, this preference is purely logistical, and we always strive for transparency in our transactions.
Moving Forward: I understand that there may still be lingering questions, and I would be more than happy to discuss this further with you. Please feel free to contact us and us for **** at your convenience. He will be happy to provide any additional clarification or address any outstanding concerns. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we are committed to making sure that every customer feels confident and informed about the services we provide.
Thank you once again for bringing this to our attention. We value your business and look forward to resolving this matter to your satisfaction.
Warm regards,Initial Complaint

I was quoted $99 for a dryer vent cleaning. When I asked prior to scheduling what this entailed it was confirm that it was from vent to vent for the dryer. Only half of my vent was cleaned and the technician left it clogged. He then attempted to upcharge me $429 for a "detailed clean." I have called requesting a manager call me and they have not been in contact.Customer Answer

A Manager reached out yesterday afternoon stating he would refund the money. NO REFUND WAS ISSUED and my account was charged $144.53. I feel very taken advantage of as a woman. I feel that they thought I was not educated or smart enough to figure out that I was being scammed. The manager asked me to removed the complaint and I explain this would not happened as a refund was not issued.Business Response
Date: 01/09/2024
Very false and harsh accusations! First, we don't base our prices on gender, ethnicity or any other reason but professional inspection and work that's needs to be done and defiantly not assuming women are ignorant (MY WIFE IS A PART OWNER OF THE COMPANY ANF HAS A GC LINCENSE!)
Customer reached out to our office to raise her concerns and spoke to a manager on the 4th at 3:15Pm, manger immediately advised he will discuss with the tech and the owner and call her back by end of business day, unfortunately ******************* didn't give us the opportunity to address and moved forward with this complaint. As surprised as my manager was about this approach (he called with a resolution on the 4Th at 4:29Pm) he did advise refund was approved as customer satisfaction is top priority and although our guy did do the work we don't want unsatisfied customer and hard feelings even if we don't think are justified. As you will see at the attached picture refund was made on the 5Th at 12:52Pm and an automatic email was sent to the customer, so there is no basis to her claim refund wasn't made. She sent a message she didn't get the refund we sent her the screen shot showing it was processed, my manger did advise it takes few days for the bank to process and for the funds to be available in her account. Again I do apologize ******************* feels she was taken advantage or didn't get the service she expected but with that been said I do believe consumers also needs to appreciate and respect customer service and a company who goes above and beyond to address their complains, even if it means refunding money.
Best regards,
****

I have reviewed the business response and accept this resolution. A refund was received on 1/9/2024. I did not appreciate the multiple phone calls a day from *************). On 1/3 I received 3 calls back to back at 1:42PM and again at 2:12PM. On 1/4 I received back to back calls @ 1:20PM. On 1/5 I received back to back calls @ 1:56PM. On 1/6 I received back to back calls @ 3:14PM. When speaking with the manager I was demanded to remove the BBB complaint. This is not a company to ever use!
The technician did not complete the job and only completed half of the dryer vent clean out leaving a clog and fire danger in my home. They are not honest and continued to pressure me to pay a hire price for a vent dryer cleaning stating i need a "deep clean."

***** sent me to United Home Services to have my chimneys inspected. The tech came out, November 1, 2023, not the tech stated on my text that would come, but another one. Ok. So he looked at fireplaces (5) but only one set of two chimneys which housed two fireplace flues. He Said that 3 chimneys needed to be cleaned and that the chimney roof inspections would happen on his service return. I paid $100 cash (they charged $99) and promised a follow up from the company. Nothing. I emailed them and they wrote, would follow through with tech and get back with me. Nothing. I complained to *****. They filed a complaint inhouse and then...Nothing. I want a check refund sent from United Home Services sent to my address asap.Business Response

Just made a mess & dishonest. I haven't gotten a call back from the manager either. I am not happy with this service. At all! Look how it was left. The super dirty shot vacuum he brought into my house and blew dust ALL over my house and my very Expensive show dogs they were in the crate right where he put the vacuum blowing it all over the dogs. I had to run in there and remove the dogs so they don't get sick. I have 4 kids and 2 of them have really bad allergies and asthma. And ashes all over my floor and on my deck outside and he shook out the vacuum Filter in my outside trash can next to my brand new fence liner. Is completely full of dirt in ashes!! Now I have more stuff I have to clean. I had a sweep and mop my floor and look how black my mop head is now! He also said he cleaned the whole Chimney line and I don't believe that is true. I did not see a 20-plus foot thing that would reach To do that and he was only here like 15-20mins if that. The fireplace did not look clean at all. It looks like he just vacuumed up the ashes, that's all he did. My 10-year-old could have done that! He didn't even clean off the doors. Total bait and switch too! this is Unacceptable! i need a full refundBusiness Response

To whom it may concern,
As advised the customer when we scheduled the service we sweeping and inspecting the chimney nothing related to our charges were related to the stove, from the moment we arrived it's seems like all she wanted is pushing out tech to do more then advertised. We swept all the chimney up vacuum the soot that came down and left, I also spoke with the lady myself at the time my tech was at her home and gave her the option to cancel the service if she misunderstood what she is receiving, how ever she chose to have my guy seep the chimney as advised. As far as the cleaning it seems like her dogs dragged some mad although we did offer to send the tech back as we do stand behind our work and customer service is very important!

Horrific company that will scam you. They installed a fireplace unit that leaked gas from multiple points and have ghosted us on fixing it. It has been deemed unsafe to use. Better business will also be receiving all my documentation as well as the corroborating documentation I received from a reputable fireplace company showing the multi-point failure of their install.Business Response

This complaint involves United Home Services for the *********** area. The company was contacted regarding gas logs that were functioning improperly, going out after being lit for ***** minutes. The initial service call was on 3/10/23, with a $99 service call. We were informed that the gas fireplace needed a new pilot assembly, costing $799, which was prepaid. Total charges were $972.09. After installation, the fireplace does not even turn on. Numerous calls were unanswered. We contacted the manufacturer, who informed us that their technician would advise United Home Services if they would contact them. After notifying the company, still no response from United Home Services. We now have a non-functioning gas fireplace after paying $972.09.Customer Answer

3/10/23. They overcharged for repairs initially. Tried to $1000 for what other companies charge *******. I got them down to $650 after I found out they were overcharging. Gave a 7 year warranty on their work, but my chimney has already started leaking again. They lied about what repairs needed to be done. I asked when the Tech left that if it leaks that I can call and get my money back, he said yes. I have called and have been told they will have a manager call me and that has not happened. They are dodging me and refusing to give my money back for sub par work, that was supposedly under warranty, and they made made my roof look ugly because they left seal and all over my shingles.Business Response

To whom it May concern we did go to **************** for a free chimney inspection due to a leak he complained about, we advise chimney needs to rebuild dur to a bad shape how ever he declined and wanted parial repair. I spoke to the consumer my self and advise it wont be enough and we won't be able to warranty the job he stated "don't worry about that" and wanted us to proceed when he called to say he still has issues I explained to him again and he wasn't happy about it. Scheduled United Home Services in Superior, CO to clean the chimney in our rental house. The reviews on ****** showed they had 4.9 stars but now reading some of the complaints on BBB, it makes more sense how that came to be.
When the contractor went to clean out the fireplace, his shopvac blew all of the soot and debris into the entire main floor. The tenant came downstairs and realized what he was doing and told him to stop. He offered to wipe around the fireplace for free then left. When we reached out to the company the next day, the manager was combative and unwilling to get the area cleaned. Considering it is a carcinogen and there is a newborn in the house, this should have been resolved quickly. It is now on us, the landlords, to get the house cleaned. This company is extremely unprofessional and putting people at risk for health issues.Business Response
