      We engaged Childress to assist us with an addition to our home that required engineering plans for the city permit. We enjoyed working with Childress and have no complaints about the work completed. Upon final completion, Childress emailed us final invoicing. We didnt know the final invoice would come electronically (the initial invoice was paid in person). We never agreed to electronic communication and ****** told an invoice was forthcoming. The invoice went into an email inbox that isnt checked. Childress never called nor did they mail any correspondence to our home. Childress engaged a law firm to collect the debt ($300). The law firm that called us. We, of course, were happy to pay Childress and said we were unaware of the final invoice. However, the law firm required we pay their fees for a total invoice of over $600. The law firms fee (for a phone call) doubled the cost. Additionally, the law firm reported the debt on our credit report. They reported to credit prior to contacting us. We have no contract with Childress. We never consented to electronic communication and we never agreed to pay fees if they had to collect debt. We believe Childress debt collection practices (as well as the law firm - ************************* and Associates) are predatory and do not give consumers a fair opportunity to pay their invoices. We do acknowledge the email from Childress was sent but not received by us. Upon trying to contest the law firm fees, we were told the law firm fees would additionally be reported to credit if we did not pay them. We belief a refund for the law firm fees is a fair settlement.
