Saw a negative review, but was eager to start project and she seemed pleasant enough. Our agreement was her cost plus 20%. Purchased two expensive chandeliers. Asked where is the manufacturers invoice to which your 20% is added. She refused to give us a copy. Should have let her go then, but was in denial and too eager to keep the project moving along. First monthly design invoice arrives. No breakdown. No explanation. Just x hours times x. Requested detail and never received for that month. Remembered the review I read earlier saying get ready for a project that costs more and lasts longer than your wildest guess. Wondered if we should just pay up and let her go. Didnt have the name of the paint we agreed on for the bedroom furniture. Paid for her time making that selection, but wasnt careful to make note of it myself. Too trusting. She wouldnt tell me once it was apparent wed be parting ways. Paid her. Didnt have any harsh words. Then, discovered an expensive light fixture wasnt going to fit where planned and would have to return it and probably pay a restocking fee. No problem. Called showroom and was told designer must return the item since she purchased it. EVG Designs has moved on to the next poor client. Wont return my call and cant be bothered to talk with the showroom for just a few minutes. Just my advice- free of charge, keep documentation of all your selections. If a designer gets miffed, they can leave with all the details for which you have already paid. No matter how clear you think youve made your requests/agreements, and in spite of the fact that you are not litigious, have no intention of running after wrongdoers, get everything in writing. Perhaps, you can shame them into doing the right thing? Thought long about whether to write a review. Best to wipe hands and move on, but thought about the next potential client. For every negative review there are likely 10 people too busy to bother warning others.
